[ACTION | AROUND UNION]
[ Cordelia never made a big fuss about her birthday. Until a few months ago, it only served as a reminder that she had once again survived another year of being unmarried--something that her mother insisted upon reminding her of, at length. Usually there would be a formal dinner at the main estate, but with her father away on business, they would need to pencil it in another time.
Which, honestly, Cordelia was fine with. So much fuss over her was still a bit uncomfortable.
She told very few about the day, save for her coworkers and, of course, Robin. It didn't actually matter, at least that was what she told everyone.
Going through the day, she hoped someone would mention something. She was 27 this year. It wasn't a milestone year to be sure, but a little pomp and circumstance on her behalf might have been nice. She even decided to wear a nice skirt today. She is in high spirits toward the beginning of the day, but by the end, her spirits are low, and she can be found around either the Rangers or Swords headquarters moping. ]
Ah, I wish this day would end...

Ah, I wish this day would end...

Why's that?

[ Cordelia pauses, looking up at Yuuna from her desk. Did she say that out loud? ]
I'm sorry, I was thinking out loud.

[Somethings going on. Nice skirt indeed, and moping...]
You're sulking. Why?
no subject
[ Oh dear, was she really? Well now she was more than embarrassed. The redhead turned a few shades brighter than her hair. ]
O-oh, I didn't mean--
[ She shakes her head. ]
Nothing so serious, I assure you.
no subject
Yuuna knows you a little bit better than that. She baps the redhead lightly on the arm and shakes her head.]
It's something serious, or you wouldn't be moping. What's up, buttercup?
[Yes she actually just said that.]
You can talk to me, I won't laugh. You've listened to me enough.
no subject
[ Now she was getting defensive. It was a silly thing to be upset about. ]
Getting older, I suppose. Usually my mother would make a bigger deal out of my birthday. Or my younger cousins. It feels a bit... odd, maybe.
no subject
[...well that explains that.]
Well I guess that means I can't ask you to cover my patrol later does it?
[She offers a wink.]
I didn't even celebrate my birthday. It's kinda no big deal, but Robin didn't make any plans did he?

Come on now, you're too young to be getting depressed about birthdays. Leave that to the old folks like me.
[He smiles.]
no subject
I'm surprised you remembered. Thank you. But it feels strange, usually I dread my birthday, but this year...
[ She takes a sip of her coffee. ]
Please don't tell my mother this, but I almost miss her badgering me about my age.
no subject
Don't get as far as I have in this field with a shoddy memory.
[He leans against a nearby desk, listening.]
Because you have Robin now?
[He chuckles.]
Give it time, I'm sure she'll start pestering you about grandchildren soon.
[He gives the young woman a conspiratorial wink, chuckling to himself.]
Just don't go trying to convince her that little Rin is her granddaughter. I'm not sure her heart could take it.
[He's got jokes! He sips at his coffee for a bit, watching the melancholy girl.]
I think that bakery on the corner sells cakes.

[ She gives Gordon something of a mareepish smile. ]
She was asking us about children the moment we returned from our honeymoon. Surprisingly, my age hasn't come into the argument. Yet.
[ Although that likely wouldn't be the case for much longer, judging from her tone of voice. She was already well behind the curve. Still, Cordelia made a face at the mention of using Rin. ]
I would never think to do something like that!
[
It wouldn't work.]Although between her lessons and our work, we are quite busy.
[ It wasn't that she was opposed to being a mother, truly, but the thought of doing so now... Well, it simply was not on the table. She had far too many things to concern herself with, and having a child would complicate things. Maybe once Rin's lessons were through. Still, she smiles. His heart was in the right place. You would be a god-grandfather eventually, don't worry. ]
Oh, is that right? I may have to make a stop before going home. I imagine Robin and Rin might enjoy something sweet to share.

Us old folks can nag, but, ultimately, we want our kids to be happy.
[A moment's pause.]
Though I'd be lying if our idea of happy didn't often include children.

[ She smiles a bit, running a finger along the rim of her mug. ]
Although my mother may have to wait a bit longer. We want to enjoy being married first.

slides in here horribly late to meet rin's Good parent
Get back here with that, you traitor! I'm gonna give you all such brainfreeze when I catch you!
[ if Cordelia turns around, she'll see a Growlithe with a wooden shepherd's staff in its mouth, running away from Jack and a Pidgeotto. if she doesn't... well, the staff is pretty long, and Growlithe intends to pass by close to her. she might find her feet swept out from under her. ]
don't even worry about it
Being a knight, however, meant always being prepared, even against nearly being kneecapped by a shepherd's staff. She turns, seeing the scene unfold. Quick on her feet, Cordelia manages to jump out of the way at the very last second. ]
You're going to hurt someone doing that!
[ She shouts after the Growlithe and his friends. Because yes she is very mom. ]
no subject
he comes to a stop beside Cordelia, a little out of breath from the chase, and smiles. ]
Sorry about them, miss! My friends got caught up in playing keep-away with me and they weren't looking where they were going.
[ he waves to the group of children that are now waiting at the end of the street with Growlithe, and they shout back to him: Jack, come on! still, when he gestures for them to be patient, they are. ]
Growlithe didn't hit you with my staff, did he?
no subject
Still, their ringleader seemed reasonable. She was thankful for that. ]
No, fortunately. Even still, running around the streets like that is dangerous. Please keep your games to the parks, or other less populated areas of town in the future. Someone could get hurt.
no subject
Yes, ma'am! Or I'll try my best, anyway, but it's, uh. It's not always easy to shepherd a bunch of kids when they suddenly decide they want to play a game that involves running away from me as fast as they can.
[ and also, he's not going to do anything to try and stop them because that's lame, and he's the fun escape from their lame parents and teachers. but he can pretend for now that he's a sensible citizen who is totally sympathetic to her concerns. ]
Like I said, sorry it got out of hand. I'm Jack Frost, by the way.
no subject
Knowing how to show a bit of authority with them would not be amiss. Being able to play is all well and good, but what if one of them should get hurt under your watch?
[ She gives him a polite nod, giving him a slight smile. Was she going soft in her old age? ]
Cordelia Chevalier. And so long as they stay out of trouble and no one is hurt, then no harm done. They are children, after all.
