Eighth Sword - Video

[Today's video is brought to by a Frosslass with a pen and a paper.

And several angry Pokémon. They have trapped Martin (with the exception of Brigadier, who is holding the Band) so that the sign Tiria wrote and pinned to his shirt can be read.

Martin, meanwhile, is just so done.]

I have a death wish and tried to stay behind with the Savior in the past and probably die.

Again.

This is the second time I've tried to died since coming back to life.

My Pokémon are not happy.

Am I sufficiently shamed, Boar?

[The Doublade hisses and Brig shuts the Band off.]

Good. Stay in touch then. I'll be down on the island, but Susume...well...if something comes up I'll be there in minutes.

See, this is why self-sacrifice is ridiculous.

Because apparently Pokémon will ridicule you for it.

Or at least mine will. They're...a bit tired of my "tendency to not think" as Tiria put it.

You saw the Savior?

[Lucas's tones are suitably awed as some color rises to his cheeks. The death wish goes unremarked upon at least for the moment - everyone knows this about Martin already, anyway.]

What was she like?

[He's a bit jealous, honestly. All he saw was a horrible monster.]

Very tired. I think she wanted it all to end.

W-What?

[That particular turn of phrase doesn't bring anything very positive to mind and Lucas's pleased smile fades.]

What do you mean? What did you see?

[ Her eyebrows furrowed a bit. ]

Could you confirm that, that she could actually speak with them, or if they just had a general understanding?

In any case, it doesn't take a savior to be a martyr. I'm not trying to throw stones at your argument, but it seems a bit idealistic.

The very end of the Uprising, I think. It was horrible.

It was very similar to how my ability works, watching them. I can't actually speak with my team, but it is as good as. And it may not, but here? That martyr was very like the Savior.

[ She sighed. You're way too idealistic for your own good, Martin. Had she not gone underground herself and seen the things she had seen, she probably wouldn't have believed him. But she was having a hard time coming up with a reason not to. ]

All right then, assuming she was--what was she like? What did you see?

She was...tired, and the people with her seemed resentful. She was the leader, but I don't think it was by popular demand.

[Of all the things to miss, but Matthias couldn't chastise himself too much as he'd been busy attending to Methuselah's last rites at the time all of this happened. Now that he was back though, he couldn't help but shake his head as he walked into the house and put a hand on Martin's shoulder.]

Even if what you did was dangerous...and probably ill advised, it was very brave of you.

[How many other people would have had the fortitude to do such a thing after all? Only his hero, that's who!]

[He smiles a bit]

Thank you, Matthias. I told you she was about your age, yes?

That you did.

[If he was being honest, that news was a bit emboldening...knowing that even someone his age was capable of such great things, but he wasn't about to let it go to his head. He had to keep himself humble, lest he go out and embarrass the heck out of himself.]

All the same, I'm glad you're back in one piece.

[One funeral was enough Martin, please.]

[Matthias you're going to do that anyway]

As am I. Do you think you'll be ready to head for the Flower Grove soon? I think we could both use a break from the city.

I think that would be a wonderful idea. I'm sure Basil would appreciate getting out to stretch his legs more. He's...a little different than you might remember him.

[Said completely straight faced with only the slightest hint of a coy smile hitting the side of his lips. It seemed that someone here had a little bit of a secret.]

...Matthias, did Basil evolve?

...Perhaps.

[Which is totally a yes, can you see how excited he looks right now? There are no words for his happiness.]

[Martin laughs]

Well, let's see him! And we really should think about finding another Pokémon to bond with...and a bigger house.

[No sooner did the words leave his mouth did a rather regal looking Lopunny in a red and gold-lined jacket bound in and, as Basil often did, struck a noble pose.]

The coat was his idea.

[He'd had the extra funds...and Basil had really wanted it, so he considered it a congratulatory gift on the evolution.]

[Martin smiles, trying not to chuckle because oh Basil. Oh Basil you silly Lopunny. Martin's team swarms him to congratulate him, chirping and chittering and cheering.]

He looks wonderful. I don't know how long that jacket will stay in that condition though, the way he bounces.

It's actually made from some pretty durable stuff, it was designed for travel so I'm sure he'll be fine.

[And doesn't Basil just look so proud? He's just taking in all those congratulations and holding on to the lapel of his jacket, telling everyone all about how he'd helped Matthias get through his forest adventure to spread Methuselah's ashes and how their teamwork had finally reached a whole new level. He wasn't just proud of himself, he was proud that he had such a stalwart partner to watch his back as well and he is going to brag about Matthias so hard to anyone who'll listen.

Good thing the young man couldn't understand Pokelanguage, or he'd be bright red right now.]

[Martin can and that does make him laugh a little. He's not going to tell Matthias, though, as that'll just embarrass the poor boy]

Good. I was thinking we could leave later this week? I need to get more potions.

That sounds like a good idea to me. I'll make sure to stock up on food and the like as well, it won't do to just eat dried rations the whole time we're gone.

[They could of course, but...it just wasn't the same as good old fashioned cooking.]
