[ now there's a new face on the network. if you've had to do with smiths lately you may have run into Thorin before, but that's about it. he's got a gruff look about him, somewhat unimpressed. ]

Since one of the librarians has taken it upon himself to ban me from the relevant sections of the library, [ that may have been a wry smile there but it's gone very quickly, ] I was wondering if one of you could tell me something about the history of Union. The story of the Saviour aside.

[ was there anything else- right. yes. perhaps he should give his reasons. and his name. ]

My name is Thorin. I came here from Caldera a few months ago, but have not had the chance to ... immerse myself in the culture.

[ not that he's all sure he wants to. something off to the side catches his eye, and he closes the feed with a nod. ]

Very. Even though as a smith I can say the smell of smoke can cling to me at times, I've yet to see someone react to it this strongly.

Do you work at the Forge then? I've visited on a few occasions and the smell and experience are truly something else.

[darer]

I work in the Industrial District in a workshop of my own. Why did you visit?

[master_tactician]

I'm a bit of a swordsman, so it's worth it to keep my equipment in top condition.

[darer]

Only a bit of a swordsman.

[master_tactician]

I know my way around a blade but I find my tomes are a bit more to my liking.

[darer]

So you do not believe that it's a matter of choosing one over the other?

[master_tactician]

Being versatile is an advantage in combat. Using both suits me well and it'd be foolish not to take advantage of it.

[darer]

And Enlightened as well as pokémon of more than one type are similar. Still, I'm told that most people in Union are encouraged to find a strength or skill and stick with it.

[master_tactician]

Well we've yet to discern whether or not I am actually from Union, so I don't feel any particular pressure in that regard.

[darer]

You do not know where you're from?

[ second person today. that's odd. ]

[master_tactician]

I haven't the foggiest! I awoke with no memories in the forest shrine some time ago. It's entirely possible I died, but nobody here recognizes me.

[darer]

It's- such a thing is possible? To die and just...

[ wake back up? ... ???? ]

[master_tactician]

So they tell me! Apparently urban legend has it that the Forest Shrine is the site of resurrections of those who were lost or killed. Often people who have died or vanished will sometimes reappear at the shrine with little or no memories of their past.

[darer]

I see. So we have no way of knowing by what power... or who chooses those who come back.

[master_tactician]

None whatsoever!

[darer]

Do people here simply blame it on the Gods?

[master_tactician]

Or thank them, depending on who you might ask.

[darer]

Of course. ... I have to admit it's difficult to think of that as a natural thing.

[master_tactician]

You might say calling down lightning and flame isn't entirely natural.

[darer]

It's natural enough for Pokémon and Enlightened.

[master_tactician]

And yet so many humans lack any such abilities of their own.

Unless you want to argue that pokémon are unnatural, I don't know what you're trying to get at.
