Happy New Year, Union.
[Rise sits in her bedroom at the theater, smiling pleasantly into her Warp Band and waiting for the tea in front of her to cool off enough to drink. In the background, her Gardevoir can be seen taking a brush to a rather put-out looking young Espeon.]
It's been almost a year since that earthquake and the time when we discovered other living humans, and I really...
[She holds a hand up to her head.]
Ooh, sorry. I didn't even celebrate much last night. Anyway, I--owwww...
[She pauses and clutches her head again. In the background, her Pokémon both shoot her a startled look, then duck and cover under the bed. There's a sudden noise and then static from the Warp Band.]
[Action, Union Divine Theater]
[There's a sudden flash of bright light and a sort of musical blast that comes from Rise's room, knocking her door off its hinges and shattering her windows. It doesn't do much damage beyond that, though any Psychic-types in the area are probably going to have a ringing headache for several minutes from the feedback.]
[The feed turns back on after a few minutes. The bedroom in the background looks disheveled, like someone's desk and linen closet exploded, but the person smiling rather punch-drunk into the camera and the two Pokémon rubbing their heads in the background all appear to be fine. In fact, Rise suddenly looks a good deal more mature, although part of that might just be that the psychic blast destroyed her girly hairdo.]
Heeeey, Haruka, I finally caused as much property damage as you!
[She feels around on her head, generally looking for signs of her appearance changing.]
Wait, all that and all I get is more hair again?

Heeeey, Haruka, I finally caused as much property damage as you!
[She feels around on her head, generally looking for signs of her appearance changing.]
Wait, all that and all I get is more hair again?
[action]
[Rise says that aloud and pats him on the head. She wants Haruka to know how proud she is of this kid.]
You take five now, okay? I'll call you back if I need to.
[The Espeon nods appreciatively and trots over to the corner of the courtyard. He'd go bother Toyo for an egg later, he wants to see the end of this fight.]
I'm gonna call out another one of my main girls next...
Espe!
Sorry, one of my main girls next, so don't feel like you have to hold back for my sake, okay?
no subject
But really, there's no choice. If there's a "main girl" headed her way, Haruka will reply in kind. The blinding flash this time is punctuated by an extra gust of icy wind, and the resulting Pokémon lets out a joyful bellow at being released somewhere outdoors that's this gloriously, well, cold. ]
Beaaaaaaarrrr!!!
[ And then the eight feet of solid fur and muscle with a little bow atop her head realizes she and Trainer aren't alone in the courtyard and visibly gulps. Then she's bowing to Rise, her face pink beneath her fur. Oh, goodness, miss!!! She's so sorry!!!
Haruka sticks her hands in her pockets as Breeze drops out of the tree, aching but curious, to watch. Sky the Beartic finishes bowing and stands there with her paws clasped in front of her, eyes downcast. ] Ready when you are.
[ She bears. Er, swears. ]
no subject
Uh, h-hey, Sky! We're just doing a little spar now, okay?
[Rise raises her own Warp Band, and Inari appears in a dainty flash of light, like Sky's 1/16-scale opposite in element, size, and poise. The whole courtyard gets brighter and sunnier, warming up the chilly winter day significantly as Inari's Drought activates.]
Vulpix!
Aheh...I promise I was going to call her before you picked an Ice-type, really...
Anyway, Inari, we're going to do all the instructions this way. Am I coming through okay?
Vul!
Great! Let's start with a Will o' Wisp
[Inari concentrates and focuses, a mysterious blue flame appearing near the giant bear-Pokémon. Unfortunately, it's a little too far away to catch her fur.]
Aw, man...
no subject
She looks quite unafraid of the little Vulpix - rather taken, actually. She has to fight that? But it's so dainty! And elegant! And -
Huh. There is fire floating in the air now. Sky blinks at it, but Haruka is in full spar mode. ] Don't let it distract you! Blizzard!
Bear! [ That's right! She's got to get all that lovely frigidity back! Sky takes a deep breath and starts spewing snow everywhere.
Yes, this won't technically change the field conditions, but it makes her feel better. Might as well lead with her strongest attack! ]
no subject
Okay, let's try...hm, I'm curious about something. Try Captivate!
[Inari gave Rise a curious look - this was a female Pokémon, for one, and for two, she could probably just obliterate her with flames under this bright sunlight - but she gives a little Vulpix shrug and then passes her tails in front of her face, putting on her best shy-but-curious facade she'd normally save for Mr. Right when it was egg time.]
no subject
Huh. That's an unusual approach. But whatever.
Sky, for her part, seems confused at first as well....but then a paw goes to her mouth. Oh. Oh, dear. Now she has a problem.
She looks over at Haruka, stricken. Trainer! You want her to hit that Pokémon? That Pokémon is a true lady!!!
Haruka sighs. ] Brine.
[ Now both paws are over Sky's mouth. She gazes at Inari in lovestruck agony. Can she possibly attack perfection? ]
no subject
She's hesitating. Keep it up!
[Inari shot a mental Vul! back at her partner that this wasn't how a lady was supposed to fight.]
Eh? I almost understood that. You want to just end this?
Vulpix!
Well, okay. Fire Blast, then.
[Inari nods, and concentrates. Before her appears her own ideal of true beauty - a daimonji bigger than she is that launches toward the lovestruck giant, burning even hotter in the intense sunlight.]
[...she flicks her tails apologetically as the fire blasts toward Sky.]
((Rolled a hit and no burn, if that matters.))
that works!!
[ Sky is too busy admiring Inari to listen to her Trainer, though. So it's only when she wonders why it's suddenly so much hotter here that she realizes the light show wasn't an effect for her benefit, but instead an attack headed right for her.
Struck with the Fire Blast, Sky throws her arms up to protect her face (and, let's be honest, her bow) from the flames. Stumbling backwards, she falls into a pile of slush on the ground that had been snow until somebody started waving fire around. Haruka grits her teeth. Is that all?
Sky takes a deep gulp of cold air. She can't just lie down and give up. That beautiful, beautiful Vulpix will think poorly of her. So even if she's not sure she can fight back, she takes a deep breath and slowly tries to climb to her feet.
It's unclear from the way she's wobbling whether she'll make it. Haruka holds her breath but doesn't betray her feelings. Sky knows the stakes. Whether she stands or falls is up to her own willpower.
The shaky paw she has outstretched towards Inari as her lovesick eyes gaze at her foe is likely overkill, though. ]
no subject
[Inari shoots her trainer a look and bows her head, letting Sky get back up. She'd give her a paw, but there's sheer mass to consider here.]
Vulpix...
[Which translates for Sky's sake as "Take your time. No need to get so invested in a simple sparring match..."]
Uh...I think Inari wants to pause for a sec, or something.
no subject
[ Watching her fret, Haruka almost cracks a smile. The bear will be fine even if she can't keep fighting.
So she turns to Rise instead, nodding at Inari. ] Quite the little fighter, there.
no subject
[Inari just preens a bit for the moment while the intense sunlight starts to fade back into winter cold. Take your time, Sky.]
no subject
Okay. One paw...then the other. And Sky's standing. She's not sure she can keep it up, though, so she waits, centering herself. ] B-bear.
no subject
[Inari, meanwhile, licks a paw thoughtfully.]
Vulpix?
[Is Sky ready to continue? Or would she prefer to call this a draw? It was more of a demonstration of her partner's abilities, anyway.]
no subject
Get dizzy and sit back on her haunches, apparently. Haruka sighs and places a hand on her bear's foot. ] Don't hurt yourself.
[ Sky has a bad habit of refusing to give up and fighting to a draw even when it isn't safe. Haruka has unconsciously been fostering that, since that kind of stubborn endurance will be needed against the gods.....but there's a time and place for everything. She shouldn't tax her bear too much here. ] We withdraw. You've got quite the lungs, kiddo.
[ And she winks. Haruka Tenoh just flirted with a Vulpix. ]
no subject
Thanks, Haruka. So how'd I--
[Rise blinks and puts a hand to her head for a second as another, much less destructive wave of psychic energy leaves her and travels along her connections to her Pokémon. Inari perks up, refreshed, and the wounds Kaneda received mostly disappear without him even using Moonlight.]
--uh, what just happened?
no subject
[ She's more like Michiru than she knows. And she's watching Rise closely despite looking like she gives no damns about everything and all is peachy keen. Was that a refresh with no consequences, or did it drain on the girl's health? ]
no subject
I guess I picked up some kind of Ability when I evolved, too. That should come in handy, right?
no subject
[ Fortunately it doesn't look like that's what happened. She tries to put her hand on Rise's shoulder - one part to lean in, but also one part to see if she'll feel anything from contact - and switches to sultry mode. She's impressed, Rise. Quite impressed. ] And never doubt you're more than a pretty face.
no subject
Oh, uh...yeah. Thanks. You already helped me with that a lot. Unless I was just dreaming about you then.
[Then she blushes entirely.]
Er, you know what I mean. How do you do that to people, anyway...?
no subject
Satisfied with everybody's experiments, Haruka drops her hand. She smiles cryptically in response to Rise's comment
which means she was totally there. ] Congratulations again.[ In her book this is just about over, but her Pokémon have something to say about that: Sky drags her sorry body over to Inari to offer a paw. That was a most impressive fight (and you are still very pretty). She's not quite certain whether creatures on all fours can shake paws, but if you're up for it, decorum must be observed. ]

no subject
Then she nods again and turns back to Trainer. She's ready to go be healed now! Haruka turns to go, waving to Rise. Their first double evolution, huh?
She's losing the race. ]
