The Labyrinth of the Full Moon

With the thick mists upon them and people being hurtled between worlds, Union was certainly abuzz with rumors and concerns. Much had been tried, but nothing had managed to willfully bridge the gap between the world of dreams and the world of mortals. But on this night, a sense of anticipation was palpable. Something was going to happen. And, at the stroke of midnight, something did.

The moon, which had stood gibbous in the night sky, suddenly became full. Shining a gentle beam of light down onto the earth, its reflection shone clearly and brightly upon the nearby lake. And here it would stay. In the morning, no sun rose. The sky remained dark but the shine of the moon lit the city of Union in an eerie glow.

Those who travel to the lake shrine will find that where the moon shines, the waters have parted. A sturdy stone staircase descends into the depths of the lake, with moonlight shining upon it like a spotlight.

Those with the courage to enter will have to step into the darkness. Once their foot crosses the threshold they will find their world turned upside down as they are overtaken. When they awaken, they will find themselves besides some companions, perhaps known, perhaps not, and surrounded by a shimmering haze, an enormous maze of shifting walls and colors with no end in sight.

[Rin isn't too observant, but she does take the moment to stop watching the battle to look around the arena.]

[Lute nods in response and turns his attention to scanning their surroundings.]

[The images start to blur and fade a bit and a voice echoes through the vaults of the team's minds]

[Well, that made her jump a bit. Scared? No. Just surprised.]

Were you the one showing us that battle?

And if you were, why? It'd be interesting, if the whole being forced to battle part wasn't disturbing, but I'm not sure I see the point.

Me either. It's not like we can do anything to change the past.

It's a memory. What it means to you, however, is of interest to me.

That our ancestors made incredibly bad mistakes, but we learned from them. I mean it took a war and the near destruction of the entire human race to get it, but Union, at least, learned not to pull stuff like that.

As for me? That some humans from half a millenium before any of us were born were dumb, and some of them are still dumb, but the only reason I'm alive to say any of this is because of Hiccup, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

[Rin climbs herself down off of the Shellfish Pokémon, even if Zeni takes one of her hands into his own to keep her close. Just being protective in case something happens. After thinking about it for a few minutes, she pouts.]

Battles should not only show the strength of a Pokémon, but the bond between it and it's Trainer! That battle we saw... It was just a fight to show strength. That boy just let his Pokémon destroy the woman's team and he didn't even congratulate his friend for his success! And the woman just keeping sending more out to suffer the same fate! No emotion between them at all, it's like they was just using them!

And then the war happened... It's really scary stuff nya... That's why some of us are working really hard to not let it happen again. I like battles, but I would never force my Pokémon friends to fight a fight they don't want to fight! And if they do, I will support and cheer them on all the way! Their fights are my fights too!

[There is more she wants to say, but she doesn't want to get rambling and ranting. At least Zeni get the chance to speak. Speaking more calmly than usual.]

Humans are still really weird to me, but I've been with Rin ever since I was an egg. I've seen my fair share of dumb humans, but she is far from one of them. Thirteen other Pokémon can agree with me on how she far from those humans of the past.

She, along with these two young men and many in the place I call home, are proof that humans are learning.

[The two of them had already said a lot about mistakes of the past, so Lute doesn't bother repeating it. He does have one thing to add though.]

Honestly, the thing that bothers me the most about this is that there doesn't seem to be any reason for this fight. Not for the Pokemon, not for the humans. It's like they're fighting just because they can.

[He shakes his head.]

That's not a mentality that I can understand....

[Lute will only fight when he has to. In defense of the people he cares about. Cadenza says nothing, but smiles at him warmly. That's one of the things shes always liked best about him.]

At the time it was to prove who was best. Who was the best trainer, and who's Pokemon were the strongest. Trainers strove to be the best, like nobody before them.

[He shrugs slightly.]

I never wanted to be the best. As long as I'm strong enough to protect my friends, that's enough for me.
