2nd Phantasm [Nightmare]

[Those who find their way into Kyoko's dreams will find that they're not pleasant at all. In this particular nightmare, there's an imposing shadowy figure with a large, crooked grin looking down at three bodies, each one with a terrified expression frozen on their faces. They're not alone, though. There's a younger Kyoko on her knees, trembling and unsure what to do.]

Are you ready to die, child?

[Kyoko's gaze shifts to her family. They couldn't fight...she couldn't protect them...]

Mom...dad...Momo...I'm sorry...

[Her words are little more than a whisper, nearly drowned out by the cackling of the Spiritomb shifter as he steps closer, she shows one final act of defiance. She grabs a tent stake and holds it out like a weapon to face the nightmarish creature before her, tears streaming down her cheeks and clearly terrified. It lunges at her, and she stumbles backwards, but flames seem to burst from her body, enough to distract the monster and giving the girl a chance to run through the trees.]

[The second dream isn't much better. Kyoko looks as she does now, however she's once again standing before the Spiritomb shifter that killed her family. And once again, she looks...powerless. Even with her spear in hand and cloaked in fire, she's trembling.]

...pathetic. All this time, and you're still weak.

No...I'm not weak...I can't be.

Weak and all alone. How tragic. Now it's time to join your family.

[The shifter cackles maniacally as it continues approaching her.]

[CHIE HAS FOUND THE LOOPHOLE]

Then I won't. You take the left, I'll take the right, and we'll hit this thing together.

[She is not taking no for an answer.]

I'll fight it however I want.

All right, do whatever you want. I'll just be attacking from the right.

If you die, it's on you.

[The spiritomb shifter just cackles, before sinking into its own shadow...and rising behind them. Kyoko whirls around almost instantly, turning into a blur of whirling steel and fire as her spear separates.]

Don't worry.

[Meanwhile, Chie jumps into the air, concentrating as a sheath of ice forms around her foot before she brings it down toward the Shifter's head in a modified Avalanche attack.]

Good...show me your power...

[The shifter only grins as Chie's attack connects...and doesn't seem to bother it, really. It laughs even as Kyoko slams into it, wreathed in flame. But Kyoko leaps back almost instantly, and there's...some sort of ghostly looking purple tether connecting her to the shifter.]

He's strong...!

[Not that she expected much else, really. But when she looks at Kyoko, Chie looks even more worried.]

What the heck is that thing?

Obviously.

[Kyoko keeps moving, striking when she can at the creature. However, it's mostly defensive, to drive it back. That bond connecting them still holds strong, and her spear passes harmlessly through it more than once.]

If it goes down, I go down with it.

[footprints_on_your_face]

What? No way!

[Chie's a bit hesitant to launch a second attack knowing that.]

And you're gonna fight it anyway?

[crimsonspearit]

Do you think I'm gonna stop just because of that?

It has to die.

[footprints_on_your_face]

But then if I help, it's like I'm killing you!

[crimsonspearit]

I told you that you'd only get in the way.

[footprints_on_your_face]

Can't we just beat him up and capture him or something?

[crimsonspearit]

No.

...it has to die.

What did this guy do?

It murdered my family.

[Chie... honestly doesn't know how to respond to that - except to take up a fighting pose again, gritting her teeth and narrowing her eyes. The vow she took when she joined the Swords expressly forbids killing except under the most extreme circumstances. Well, killing someone's family seems pretty extreme to Chie. Now with her game face securely in place, she nods to Kyoko.]

Gotcha. Let's take him out.

[crimsonspearit]

[The Spiritomb shifter just watches them without concern, grinning widely. Like it doesn't even register them as threats. Kyoko grimaces. Dying isn't exactly part of the plan, but...if it gets rid of that monster, so be it.]

...fine. I hope you've got something stronger than that kick.

[footprints_on_your_face]

It's a ghost, right? I can't use my Fighting moves... but I can at least keep him busy while you set up a final strike.

[crimsonspearit]

[Kyoko nods, but she's not even sure what a final strike against this thing would be. Only one way to find out though, right?]

[footprints_on_your_face]

[Chie will let Kyoko figure that one out. In the meantime, she jumps into action, launching Ice type attack after Ice type attack. They're all physical-based, so hopefully she can find something that will work well.]

[crimsonspearit]

[Which leaves Kyoko to work with her spear, and mostly her spear alone. Her Psychic attacks aren't effective, and her fire attacks would counter Chie's Ice attacks. The Spiritomb doesn't seem all that bothered, but maybe slightly annoyed.

After a moment of taking their attacks, it attempts to use Hypnosis.]

[Despite her type disadvantage against Psychic attacks, Chie manages to shake off the Hypnosis attack. This thing is tough, though, and she isn't sure just how to counterattack. Gritting her teeth, she glances over to Kyoko.]
