The Dreams
When Rise initially falls asleep, she sees nothing amiss, although the edges of her dreamscape have a hazy fuzziness about them as part of her mind tries to figure out why the cloying fog lately has been bothering her so much. Still, her "normal" dreams consist of a strange, shifting landscape that appears to be in the stars, high above the ground and looking down on it. There's a constant murmur, as of a huge crowd, but Rise initially pays it no mind, leaping among strange rainbow-colored floating islands without a care in the world, changing from second to second from singing out bubbles of pure color to cooking tofu with her grandmother to defeating all comers in some strange Pokémon Battle/Contest hybrid while shirtless versions of every guy she knows cheer her on.
You know, normal dream stuff.
Toyo and Himiko have come along with her into the dream - Rise's subconscious thinks they're a normal part of the landscape, but the Pokémon's dream selves are actually there. They are a little more lucid and are getting steadily more concerned about that buzzing crowd...
Before she wakes up, but a long amount of subjective dream-time later, something is causing the previous pleasant cacophony to warp and change. The floating islands become claustrophobic and close off, trapping Rise in a small space behind copies of Union's walls. The murmur of voices echoes infinitely louder, and words start to come through.
Rise is shaken out of her previous revelry and is suddenly frightened...and feels a lot smaller. Huge versions of her friends - Haruka and Michiru, Asemu, Chie, anyone she's seen kick ass in a fight - have statuesque battles over her head with all manner of mean and nasty Pokémon, even Heatran, which all vanish in puffs of smoke.
Cheer them on, Risette. It's not like you can fight for yourself.
"Whoever you are, cut it out!" Rise shouts into the Void, although she suddenly finds herself in a short-skirted cheerleader costume and staring at a crowd of faceless people bowing down to a giant golden image of herself.
Weren't you so much better off when you were just a pretty piece of furniture? At least you knew what you were doing with your life.
"I'm tired of this...," Rise says, as the faceless crowds dissolve into mist and the statue turns into sand.
Look, even now, you need someone to rescue you. What a perfect damsel in distress...
Meanwhile, something has sent Himiko and Toyo out of Rise's dreamscape. They look at each other, nod, and wander out into neutral territory to find help.

Himiko? Toyo? What's going on? Where's Rise?

[Rather than trying to explain this time, they just point/float in the direction of Rise's dreamscape.]

Okay, uh...I don't even know where you're going with this one.
That's because you're not very smart, either.

[Rise's voice is muffled, but audible. It's her dream, after all.]
I think there might be a Pokémon around, though. Maybe it's doing something weird?
That's...hey, wait, did you just do something useful?

[The's a strange sort of shimmer in the air that moves to engulf Chie!]
[?????? used Dream Eater!]
[...which is really more like Crunch given that this whole thing is a dream.]

[Damn, that hurts. Especially since Chie is part Fighting type. She falls to one knee, wincing.]
What the heck...?

Aren't you going to pay attention to me and not that scavenger? You're getting everyone's eyes on you again and I'm a little jealous.
[The background fragments into dozens of different images of Rise performing, on stage for either the theater or ACE Studios, except grainy and monochrome like a Warp Band video.]

[Chie activates her Warp Band, summoning Tung-Pi the Floette.]
Sheesh, where is it, already? Tung-Pi, hit those things with a Moonblast!
[The little fairy waves her flower back and forth, summoning up a huge pink blast of energy and firing it toward the background images.]
no subject
[There's an actual cry of pain as the probably-Spiritomb flees to somewhere else.]
You know what, Chie already rescued a princess, and you're not into girls.
[Background images of Haruka in full stage-hero guise appear briefly, and fade away.]
Probably.
[Having apparently gotten bored of tower imagery, the dreamscape suddenly shifted into an underground dungeon, or possibly a cave - mixed up memories of the Old City, nearby mines, and random ruins, specifically. Chie and her Pokémon would find themselves in a small room apparently closed up with a heavy wooden door, Rise in an ominous corridor outside of it.]
You wanted to play the hero this time, right?
no subject
[Chie didn't know Rise had a crush on Haruka too. Makes sense, though. She's pretty sure just about everyone does. Not that she gets much time to think about it.]
Hey! What the heck!
no subject
I'm sick of playing parts! Don't you get it? Why do I have to keep doing it?
Because you don't know what else do do.
[Rise makes a disgusted sound and shakes her head, and the door holding Chie in disappears.]
I know what I don't want to do, and that's play stupid games that hurt my friends.

[The whole dungeon edifice is gradually replaced by the scaffolding you'd see backstage at a theater.]
You say that like you care about your family.
Hey! Of course I care about them. I have no idea what they're talking about half the time, but...

Almost like I want to ignore everybody and do whatever I want.
Yeah!
...Huh?
