[Action; Verdant Forest]

[Anyone traveling in the Verdant Forest today may happen upon Jinxie in the midst of trying to train one of her Pokemon. Trying being the operative word here.]

It's okay, Grace... here, try again.

[Jinxie walks over to help her poor clumsy little Mienfoo up off the ground. Also there is Swag the Scrafty, wearing sunglasses and leaning up against a tree trying to look cool. He's here for moral support, which means lowering his shades every so often to wink at Grace and Jinxie and mostly just not being very helpful at all. Anyone who watches for any amount of time will see Grace stumble and trip and fall and crash into trees while trying to perform flying kicks, interspersed between awkward but well-meaning pep talks from Jinxie and the occasional flirtatious gesture from Swag. These Pokemon have no idea what they're doing at all.]

[Eventually, they break for the day, and Jinxie decides to take her problem to the airwaves. She does wait until Grace is out of earshot, though, to spare the poor thing's feelings.]

Um... I need some help. What do you do when you're trying to train a Pokemon that doesn't really seem to be getting any better at anything? She's learning new moves and stuff, but... she's really clumsy, and I don't know what to do. I've always been bad with Fighting types, but I really want to try to help this time. Does anybody have any advice?

She's... kind of clumsy.

[ Tttuuurrn. To look at Grace. And possible narrow her eyes a little ]

It's not her fault!

[Grace looks ashamed.]

How's that?

[ Melaka keeps sizing up Grace as she says this, but the tone is more observational - asking a question without a real barb - than accusatory ]

Well, it isn't like she hasn't been practicing a lot...

But 'less she's cursed or something, it's still on her, isn't it?

I guess so. I just wish I could help her more.

[ ... Hmm. Melaka fiddles with her warp band now, but she looks down at Grace ] How's she for strong?

She's really strong! Just... not very accurate.

Well then! Grace! [ And Melaka cocks her arm back, into a ready to punch position. She smirks, and takes a stance ]

Let's spar.

[Grace glances to Jinxie for a moment, unsure. She nods back.]

Go ahead, Grace. Melaka can probably help you out.

[And with that encouragement from her trainer, the little Mienfoo strikes a defensive posture, ready for the battle.]

[ Okay... Inhale, exhale. ]

Your boss's a nicer sort, Grace. She'll probs help you more, but here's how we do-

[ And then she comes in. No special moves yet, just going in quickly with and opening punch ]

[Grace manages to dodge, but not in the traditional sense. More in the 'tripped over her own feet and fell out of the way' sense.]

[ That makes Melaka over-swing a bit, but she's back to foot just as quickly. She doesn't relent though, making for a low sweeping kick at where she's down.

Was that luck? Intentional? Let's work it out with battle ]

[Grace doesn't have time to stand, so instead, she rolls. Hopefully far enough out of the way to avoid the kick. And then tries to stand.]

[ She evades! So she's not incompetent. On that swing, Melaka does need to get her footing back and turn. So that should be enough time for her to stand ]

[And stand she does! And now it's time for Grace to go on the offensive. For the time being, she's going to try a Jump Kick, but her form is sloppy as heck.]

[ It is. Which isn't good, but it also makes the move unpredictable. In this context though, Melaka's easily able to side-step that, and ready herself for her own counter attack when she (probably) crash lands ]

[Yup, crash landing it is. Grace faceplants right into the dirt. Her balance was completely off.]

[ Well that was sloppy. Come on, girl. Melaka rolls her eyes, and waits for her to get up this time before her next strike ]

[Grace is thankful for that as she stubbornly pushes herself to her feet. This time she decides to launch a Swift attack, which mercifully has the property of always hitting anyway, so it's not all that impressive. But she has to build her confidence.]

[ Not a bad attack call. Melaka, noticing the stars shooting at her mounds a shift to a defensive stance, putting up her arms. She takes the hits, of course, but it's not a serious blow. But with that done, Mel shifts a step back and then rolls a kick over in Grace's direction. Come on, evade, intercept? ]

[All she can really do at this point is defend, but that doesn't require quite as much motion as attacking. Grace manages to avoid the attack with a quick use of Detect. It's just the counterattack that always trips her up.]

Good! You're not gonna win unless you attack, though. [ She know she's left herself vulnerable with that move. she tries to reposition, but even as she's shouting she knows Grace as an opening - a Detected attack is a very narrow miss, after all, she didn't realize it would fail to connect until the last moment ]

[Time for a Force Palm, then! Except Grace puts way too much force into it, overextending herself and losing her balance as she comes barreling toward Melaka.]
