Closed Log: A Trip to a Tropical Paradise (or maybe Hell...)

Who: Yuuna, Ami, Usagi
What: A trip to the Volcano
When: Week 38
Where: The tropics
Summary: Two old school pals and a derpy tagalong go do stuff!

Hoyo and Kuroshi hadn't had any problems transporting the entire group over the Sharpedo infested waters, and in the absence of flying Tentacruels, everything seemed to be going alright. At least, for the moment. The lush tropical lowlands lay behind them, and ahead lay the sparsely vegetated pyroclastic plain between them and the actual mountain.

The young Ranger had set them down here to avoid possible problems with toxic gas, because even if the volcano wasn't presently erupting she was pretty sure only the Golurk didn't need to breathe to survive. Tapping her warp-band, she called out another Pokemon: An enormous Avalugg, who immediately began to call up cold around them. It wouldn't help too much if they wandered too close, but it should help a bit.

"Alright girls, here we are," Yuuna finally said. "Stay close to Hyozan, alright?"

Usagi had been absolutely excited the whole entire trip down to the islands. Not just because the last time she had gone to someplace kind of tropical, it ended up completely back firing due to everyone changing bodies, but because FLYING HIGH. Sure, after the first ten minutes she had managed to calm down, but that excitement had come rushing back once the island had come into sight.

And now they're on the island! Going up a real volcano! IN AN AIR CONDITIONED BUBBLE NO LESS.

"Okay~!"

Pinky is currently waddling next to her human, not as excited as Usagi, but still curious enough that she's keeping up and looking around as well.

Ami kept a careful eye on Usagi as they traveled. She knew better than to offer Minerva as a means of transportation when Yuuna was in her "expedition" mode. Besides, Minerva could be needed to take the three of them herself, though Ami would do everything she could to heal the pokemon. Yuuna was in control and Ami was happy to let her lead. Of course, she was prepared for anything. Her pack had all sorts of things they might need, medical supplies, ropes, poke-dolls, berries, whatever might be needed.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Ami didn't find the cold discomforting. However, she did feel the heat and so was more inclined to stay near the Avalugg. Aurora was currently staying near Pinky, keeping an eye on the other pokemon and the trainers. The luxio frowned at the sudden cold but didn't begrudge it under the circumstance. She was just glad that her trainer was a water type on top of the ice.

When they landed, Ami is quick to take in as much as she could and Aurora's tail sparked in case wild pokemon appeared immediately. No one wanted another Drifloon incident, after all.

"Usagi-chan, be on your guard here, the volcano isn't a place to just wander idly." She supposed it was a good thing ghosts weren't typical to the area. It was going to take a while to find the pokemon she was looking for....

"Okaaaaaaay." Is the response from Usagi as she continues to just stroll along side everyone. The scenery is a little bit familiar, especially the heat, and while it's not as dangerous as a lava lake inside of a huge mountain, Usagi can't help but think back to that time in Caldera.

At least she could breathe out here and she could see the sun and feel the wind. Definitely better than underground where everything is stiffing.

Ah yes, Ami had mentioned on their flight over that she was looking for a pokemon to bond with, and as they're talking, Usagi just keeps looking around their surroundings, maybe in hopes that she'll be able to spot it for her friend when she mentions what it is!

"Of course," Ami responded as she took in everything, trying her best to find the pokemon she sought. She glanced over to Usagi and smiled.

"A cyndaquil, a pure fire pokemon. Cyndaquils actually are one of the few fire pokemon who remain only one type, and the same type for that matter, as they evolve." Plus they were absolutely adorable and she thought it would do her well to have a fire pokemon.

She smiled privately as she thought of it being Rei to inspire the trip in a sense since the other girl was a fire and psychic type.

"They're shy pokemon, so it might be difficult to spot them. They don't like conflict so they won't be actively seeking us out for a fight."

"Cyndaquil...?" Okay, Usagi's now racking her brain to try and imagine what the little fire pokemon looks like... because really school made her try to remember all the known pokemon and that some ridiculous number. For all she remembered, it was like 700! Or 800! Either way, she can't seem to come up with an actual image of the pokemon in her head before Yuuna shoots a question her way.

"Huh? Oh, I'm just here for the ride! I've already got a few fire pokemon back home at the habitat." She kind of wish she had brought along Lucky... She would have loved to soar in these skies... "I've never been down here before, so I couldn't really turn down an offer to go!"

Which was very true. She honestly would have never come down here by herself, so the fact that she was going with people? Totally taking advantage of it.

Leave it to Ami to have a book of the pokemon in question on hand. She pulled out the text "Fire Types and Their Natures" and flipped to the page by memory before handing the book to Usagi in what looked like one fluid motion.

"This is a cyndaquil, Usagi-chan. Considered the fire mouse by many it will curl up into a ball and its back will burst into flame to protect itself from attacks. Unlike, say, charmander, a cyndaquil's fire is not constant nor does it need to be!" she offered. "But you know Usagi-chan, this is quite the opportunity to look for pokemon that aren't just fire type pokemon. There is a wide variety of pokemon here!"

..... Sigh. Usagi shouldn't have been surprised that Ami already had that pokemon marked down in her book, but she still is anyway. She humors her friend be reading the first few lines of the book before offering a small noise of acknowledgement. "Oh! I've seen one or two of those around the city! They're really cute!"

Well, now that she knew exactly what she was looking for, Usagi's just going to start glancing around to start helping with the search. If it was that important to Ami, then she'd make it her top priority too! "You guys help search for it too, okay?"

There's a happy "Fairy!" from Pinky as she does her best to salute the humans they're with. They go along for a few more steps, but it's the rustle in the bushes that gets Usagi's attention and causes her to look over, "What's that noise?"
allergictoloveletters: (It's time to act!)

[personal profile] allergictoloveletters 2014-10-24 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, Usagi shouldn't have expected anything different. Ami merely smiled as she put the book away once Usagi was aware of what they were searching for. Aurora meanwhile was staying close to Pinky, always so possessive of the pokemon, though she was the same way with Ami. It was why all the other pokemon Ami bonded with deferred to her as the leader. She knew Ami longest after all.

At the rustling, the pokemon came to alert, static running along her body. Ami clenched her fist and eyed the bush. Would they have found the pokemon so early? She'd love for that to be the case, but until she could see the pokemon, she'd not be able to analyze it.

"Aurora, be on your guard..." she cautioned, always overly worried about something. After all, Usagi had a habit of attracting... well, everything. That was just the way she was though.

"Keep your voices soft," she whispered in the off chance it was the cyndaquil, she had no desire to spook it.

Usagi's face completely lights up the moment the Cyndaquil makes its debut on their little group. What luck! She hadn't expected it to be this easy to find one! Luck sure was feeling nice to them... at least that's what Usagi's current mind set was. She doesn't take into account that it might try running or that it may become a hostile pokemon.

Bu, she tries to keep her excitement down as she's been asked to be quiet(er than normal) and instead she just looks to Ami to see what the girl would do next.

This was her pokemon search after all. Far be it for Usagi to do anything and accidentally become its favorite or hate her so much it refused to travel with them... that would be really awkward.

Ami gasped when she saw the little cyndaquil and stayed perfectly still when she saw the cyndaquil. It was absolutely adorable! Ami swallowed and she put out a hand with the warp band out. If Ami could just create a mental link to bond with this pokemon...

She could already sense everything about the cyndaquil, levels, weaknesses, strengths, all of it was laid before her. Ami crouched down very slowly as she watched the cyndaquil, never taking her eyes off. What luck, to find the pokemon so quickly! She wondered if it had something to do with Usagi being around.

"It's okay... you don't have to be scared. No one is going to hurt you."

Whether it was her, or just luck or the mun not wanting to spend two or three more tag turns searching for the pokemon, Usagi just keeps as still as possible so that she doesn't draw too much attention.

The only movement she makes is a very slow movement to inside of her bag. She lets her fingers deftly move around the pack before they tug open a small plastic container.

"I've got some poke treats if you think that'd help."

It usually helped in her case, but, again, it's just an offer on the table.

Ami glanced back at Usagi and nodded before looking back at the cyndaquil. She didn't want to break eye contact with the pokemon for very long or for him to become frightened and so she removed her bag to reduce how she looked in size. She took a small step forward and the cyndaquil lifted his nose and sniffed the air.

If she could just open up a mental link.

"Hello," she offered gently. "You are a very handsome little fellow. I'm Ami...." she saw the cyndaquil tilt his head. Yes, that was it. She just needed to open up a mental link now.
inthenameofthemoon: ([usagi] do you want to say no?)

Control over her excitement at how utterly adorable that Cyndaquil looked? Check. ... mostly. Usagi's still placing her hands on her cheeks and mentally urging the cyndaquil to come closer.

Just a little more! He could do it!
allergictoloveletters: (What could this be?)

[personal profile] allergictoloveletters 2014-10-26 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ami opened up the mental link with the cyndaquil, trying to remain still so she didn't spook the little pokemon away.

She opened up the bond, calling out to the little cyndaquil, trying to ask it to join her. That she came to the volcano specifically looking for a cute little cyndaquil like him.
