When: A few days after the Heatran event!
What: It's just another journey on the road of friendship... no seriously it is.



"Are we there yeeeeeeeeeeeet?"

The sound of Usagi's whining voice is the only thing that's heard out on the frontier outside of the sounds of nature around them. After the whole entire fiasco with the Citadel and the really really really mean Valkyries that they had to deal with, Usagi had just planned on staying at home and relaxing for a few days.

The next thing she knew, she had been called up by one Rei Hino and demaded that she be ready early the next morning. It had taken a little bit of convincing, but in the end, Usagi couldn't say no to fire priestess. Going outside of Union with someone was really the smarter thing to do, if the past week had proven. So, she had woken up super early and after breakfast that had been insisted by Usagi's mother, they had begun their trek southwest from Union. Through the Verdant Forest and now they were in the flatter lands between the forest and the canyons.

"I know I said I'd go with you, Rei-chan, but, did we have to go out this far?" Usagi re-adjusts her pack for the umpteenth time since their journey had begun, shooting a pitiful pout the other girls' way while Pinky, strangely enough, is on the ground this time, strolling next to her human partner instead of on her usual perch of Usagi's head.

Usagi just nods, "Well, I have! I mean, yeah I went to Caldera that one time, but, that was a totally different matter completely." She had mentioned it before that the Caldera trip had been more for the safety of others than for her own sake.

"I usually stayed in the Forest because at least if I got lost there I could get home easier than if I were farther away."

The fact that Rei makes the observation about her training status makes her blush and puff up her chest a little bit in pride. "I've been a trainer for a few months actually!"

"Ah, right, you did mention that." Rei nods, remembering that snippet of conversation. She didn't really know how Usagi had...helped...given the disaster that was Turnip but hey, maybe Gloom hadn't stunk so bad then.

Either way. They're heading down into the canyon proper now, getting off the path and into the winding tunnels. Casius leading the way, snuffling along, they don't really make great time...but they are seeing some pretty amazing sights. Windcarved tunnels, boulders worn smooth by time and the elements, and even the odd Diglett hard at work!

As they progress down the canyon, the path becomes more and more difficult to traverse. Despite a few brave souls making it to the bottom by now, there hasn't been any real effort to make it passable to those who aren't natural born climbers.

At some point, Usagi will take a step - and then feel something suddenly shift beneath her.

The natural sights of the canyon are enough to keep Usagi's attentions occupied for a little while, but once she has to start exerting herself more to actually get anywhere, that's when the whining starts anew.

"Have we found a place to eat lunch yet, Rei-chan?" She says as she's trying to walk around a rock that's a bit too large to just step over. As she's making her way over it, she glances up at Rei with the most pathetic pout ever. "I don't think I can take another step until I've eaten!"

And like that, she carefully slides herself down, and as she steps down, blinks when the ground shifts. It startles her enough that she lets out a short shriek before hopping backwards and pressing back against a rock surface. "S-S-Something moved under my foot!"

Rei's not having a much easier time, her breath a little short and her footsteps more and more deliberate. There's no point in acknowledging Usagi's crying and whinging, because feeding it will only make it worse. She has no intention of stopping.

At least, not until Usagi starts screaming, anyway. She freezes and turns slowly, eyes tracking down to the ground. Casius' does the same, the loyal pooch so very, very set on protecting his keeper and her friend.

"Careful, Usagi-chan. If it's a Pokemon you don't want to frighten it or it might attack."

It may be a little too late for that as, at Usagi's shriek, something leaps out of the ground and begins to spray sand every which way in a Sand Attack! It's hard to see what exactly it is through the blinding dust, but... it appears to be a... rock.

The panicked rock will turn around abruptly and run.

...Right into a wall.

"Ack!" Usagi coughs loudly, covering her face and mouth so that she doesn't end up inhaling a whole bunch of sand that the little Rock pokemon kicks up. "I can't see anything! ... Lucky!"

The bird pokemon takes its cue after watching the debacle from up on high and swoops down and starts flapping its wings so that the sand starts blowing away from both her trainer and Rei. When it starts to clear up a little more, Usagi takes a chance and peeks through the sand just in time to focus on the discolored rock body....

....that's smacked into a wall.

".... huh?"

Rei coughs as well, waving hands and trying to get away from the sudden and very surprising Sand Attack. Phobos's wings join Lucky's in clearing away some of it and she stands next to Usagi, peering at the little...rock thing.

That just...ran into a wall.

"...wow."

Lineface. So much lineface.

There was too much sand to see OK also it doesn't have eyes do you see eyes you guys should be impressed it can even function at all honestly.

Once it's finished being dazed, it will immediately hop up again and try to scurry away passing under Rei's legs in the process.

It was a pokemon she had never really seen before! ... And it was so tiny and so cute!

... and so trying to run away from them. "W-wait a minute! Don't go!" Usagi spins around and bends down to try and scoop the little Rock before it can fully escape.

Rei took a step back in surprise, and inadvertently smacked the little Roggenrola with her shoe, knocking it back and nearly sending Rei tumbling to the ground. Not quite, but enough to have her back up a bit.

"Gah! What?!"

Wow now it's being kicked. Hopefully Rei got a stubbed toe from that but Roggenrola will go careening back into Usagi and ideally give her a stubbed finger. ...If stubbed fingers are a real thing.

Usagi will successfully catch it, either way.

"OW!"

Yep, that finger is stubbed, and Usagi, as she's shaking the pain out that hand, falls back onto her bottom while her other arm goes around the pokemon and holds it close to her. "That really smarts."

Ow indeed. She hadn't meant to kick it, but wow! It surprised her. Grumbling over her sore foot, she looks over at Usagi and peers down at the little dude.

"Sorry. You two okay?"

Roggenrola lies completely motionless now in Usagi's arms as if maybe they'll decide it's a totally normal rock after all if it just goes limp.

"Yeah, I'm okay." Usagi just half smiles over to Rei before she glances down to the Roggenrola in her arms. Her lips frown in confusion as she raises the pokemon over her head with both hands. "... It is a pokemon... right?"

Pinky waddles on over and looks just as critically at it as her human partner is. Usagi might be on the road to being fooled if this keeps up...

"I think so. A rock type, probably. I've never seen one, but what else could it be?"

Deimos looks up at it with confusion, hands on his little hips. Are you okay little guy? Did you get hurt?

Shhh. You'll blow my cover.

Roggenrola will attempt to communicate telepathically, but alas it is not a Psychic type. Pokemon don't let other Pokemon get caught.

Usagi's totally falling for it, though; hopefully she'll put it down soon.

"Oh... I guess that makes sense..." But, she's still on the fence about whether or not this is a real pokemon or if she swallowed a bit too much sand. She's on the way to putting it down when she rethinks her decision and starts searching through her side pack.

Her eyes light up when she finds what she's looking for and then pulls out a pokepuff. She looks at the Roggenrola, pursing her lips in thought as she turns it all around. Did this thing even have a mouth? Well, when she can't find anything too telling, she just turns it right side up and puts the puff in front of the yellow colored orfice in the front.

"Well Deimos seem to think it's one, at least," Rei says, still peering at the little thing. She reaches out an pokes him with a finger, running a nail along the stony ridge.

"Look, he has little feet too!"

It's not sure why these tall creatures are tormenting it by scraping it with nails and by shoving... puffs? into its natural indentation that may or may not be a sensory organ, but it will stay strong in the face of torture.

Still, Usagi will definitely notice that the obviously immobile and not alive at all rock is trembling a little now.

She blinks as the little rock starts trembling in her hands. The only time Usagi's ever known anything to tremble is if they were scared or they were trying their hardest to resist doing anything. Usagi just hums softly before she crosses her legs and places the Roggenrola there.

She keeps the pokepuff next to its... sensory opening? But, instead starts rubbing its head? "We're not gonna hurt you, little one! .... not on purpose anyway. I didn't mean to step on you earlier, you know!"

"And...I didn't mean to kick you. You scared me." Rei moves to sit down beside the Pokemon, pulling Deimos over to say hi.

See? These humans aren't so bad. They're just...clumsy.

This tactic has never failed it before nothing else has ever had any interest in rocks lying on the floor...

Roggenrola is at a slight loss.

So it does the only sensible thing which is to grab the puff and hop out of Usagi's hand before hiding behind Deimos. What did these people want??

Usagi makes a small noise of discontent at the Roggenrola rushing off, but, she smiles a little when she sees that it's not completely leaving. That means that they were making progress, right? She glances over to her Clefairy and nudges it forward to Deimos and the Roggenrola so that it can have more pokemon to talk to.

You'll have to excuse her. Sometimes, she's a little too pushy when it comes to meeting ... friends..
