The Raids

[As the people of Union begin to move out into the plains, they'll find that the Councilor's warnings were apt. Though not everyone is targeted, it isn't long before a few unlucky travelers find themselves on the receiving end of the same type of attack. The bandits, whoever they might be, are experts at swooping out of the blue, striking so swiftly that the victims almost never even catch a glimpse of them.

How exactly will they put this to a stop? There's so many, it seems impossible to take them out one group at a time... Perhaps they have a base somewhere.]

((This post is for both groups who wish for mods to run and players to thread freely amongst themselves. You may feel free to handwave having been attacked and thread the aftermath of that event. Please respond to the appropriate section depending on where your character is. Thanks!))

[Nozomi looks over her shoulder toward the Staraptor, then at the Pidgeot behind Eri. They weren't exactly in a position of power, and Eri wasn't making a good case for them.

Mithra, usually the first to turn tail and run, bristles. Bending down slowly to rest a hand on the Nidorino's head, she gives a look to Eri. She knows what you're doing, but they're at a severe disadvantage here.]

Eri, it's okay.

[Nozomi then looks forward at who she assumes is their leader.]

Maki, grab the pack with food in it. Make sure they can see you when you do.

[Somehow through this, she seems unusually calm.]

[ It's a good thing that Maki has the other two girls to rely on. She's not used to this sort of thing, having never even fought at all before, and more than a little afraid they are going to have something bad happen to them. But as much as she wants to freak out, she only needs to look to Nozomi, and sees that the older girl is keeping her cool.

So with that order she thinks about saying they shouldn't give up their supplies, that they needed those things, but Nozomi seems certain. Maki just nods her head slowly, and takes the pack, slowly of course, and brings it to Nozomi. ]

...A-Are you sure about this?

Good girls.

[The leader of the group will hop down to collect the supplies while the two behind Eri and Nozomi remain still.]

We've been seeing a lot more of you earthbound folk lately. Seems like we've stirred up a commotion.

[She'll hold out a hand and the one behind Nozomi will release her so she can hand over the goods.]

[Eri lowers her blade even more, but is still subtly gathering ice around her. The air is just getting colder, bit by bit]

[Earthbound?

"Supplies." A single pack of food wouldn't put them into too much trouble in the grand scheme of things, especially when she directed the two to pack light for this reason. Besides, someone next to her really wanted to put up a fight, and if things went bad, she was confident that Eri would be able to help, and the others with her could serve enough good to get them out.

Even still, Nozomi kept her cool amid the definite chill in the air.]

If you needed supplies, all you had to do was ask. There's no need to attack innocent people and pokemon.

[ Maki barely has left her own house, much less the city, to understand the expectations of people way out here. She knew it could be dangerous, but somehow she never imagined it would end up like quite like this. She's scared though, scared that Eri might do something to get herself hurt, or worse all of them.

If things weren't so tense as they are at the moment though, Maki might have actually worried that Nozomi meant her when she mentioned innocent pokemon. ]

I-It can't be helped right?! J-Just take the bag and leave us alone!

We are wanderers, not beggars. The strong take what they need to survive from the weak. That's the way the world works.

[In one smooth motion, she's hooked the pack of supplies in one arm while the other flips a spear to point towards Eri's head.]

What's the matter, Ice Queen? Haven't warmed up to us yet?

[haha temperature puns]

[Eri allows herself a brief smile and twirls with a dancer's grace, sliding past the spear and grabbing at the woman's throat. If successful, she'll start to form ice around her neck. If the woman dodges, she'll just launch a blast of ice at her]

[Eri, she told you to stand down. Thankfully enough, Lakshmi appears to be on the same wavelength as the blond, throwing another sand attack at the other assailants, quickly following up with lunging fury swipes.

Things may have just gotten a bit more difficult.]

That's not how it works at all! You are suppose to work for--! [ Maki finds herself annoyed that someone would think like that, that other people aren't owed what they put effort into. If you work and save up money to buy something, no one has to right to steal it from you! But even as she tries to speak, it's Eri who cuts her off, feeling a cool breeze blow by her, barely able to keep up. ]

[Wow if this is how you react to temperature puns she's just getting warmed up.

Totally counts as a different pun since it's a different meaning of the phrase.

The woman will hardly allow her neck to be grabbed when she's expecting an attack and jabs the spear to the side as Eri steps forward to flick the girl away; consequently, the blast of ice is slightly skewed. She's hit, but slides smoothly away without betraying pain.]

Maybe you should cool down a little bit.

[The raider that had been standing behind Eri proceeds to attempt to bean her from behind with the butt of her spear. The one behind Nozomi will grab her a little more tightly as Lakshmi attacks, using her as a shield against her own Pokemon.

The three large birds, in the meantime, will flap forward to surround them as if to ask if they really think they'll come out on top in a brawl.]

[Jakša, Eri's Nidorina, leaps out from behind Eri and launches herself at the raider behind Eri to prevent her from knocking Eri off-balance with a bite attack.

Eri, to her credit, spins away from the forward spear attack and does a flip and recovers a bit of a ways away, slicing her arm through the air as her warp band glows brightly.

Vratislav! Dajana! Spartak! Živka! Attack!

Spartak the Sneasel appears in a flash of light and moves swiftly to come up, if possible behind the raider holding Nozomi to deliver an ice punch to the back.

Vratislav the Azumarill, as it emerges, immediately curls into a rollout and launches itself at the spear-wielding woman Eri was engaging.

Dajana the Petilil, a more gentle soul, gives Živka the Larvesta a Helping Hand as it ignites its body and hurls itself at the same woman that Jakša attacked]

[Eri, you are getting the talking to of a lifetime once they're done here, provided everyone got out in one piece.

Tugging hard against her captor as Eri is nearly knocked in the back of the head, she holds her breath as the blond deftly dodges and goes on the offensive. They were fighting.

Thankfully, it didn't take much to activate her warp band.]

Helen. Coeus.

[Summoning Helen the Jynx and Coeus the Solosis, the bubble child quickly went to work, launching a Psyshock at his human's captor. Helen charges at their "leader", an icy aura gathering around her fist as she launches an Ice Punch at her.]

[ How about the both of you are getting a talking to, or perhaps, just a crying Maki, scared that her two new friends could have gotten hurt. She doesn't really even understand it, but the idea of Nozomi or Eri getting hurt, is something that makes Maki's stomach tighten until she can barely breath.

Clenching her fists at her side, watching the fight going around her, Maki doesn't know what she can do. She's not figured out her own abilities as a shifter, barely able to go back and forth when she actually wants to do so. She is stuck, wondering if she can even do anything to help.

Of course...there's one way she can think to get them out of this dangerous situation, but would Eri and Nozomi ever forgive her? Could they actually win? If things don't turn around though, then Maki is going to have to step in. ]

Heh. Can't win in a fair fight?

[Looks like she's out of ice puns.]

I'm sorry to give your friends a chilly reception, but we'll have to take our leave.

[Never mind. The leader leaps up into the air to avoid the Azumarill's Rollout and doesn't come down - her Pidgeot has caught her. The Jynx's Ice Punch consequently misses as well.

The other two don't fare as well. The one behind Eri lands her spear on the Nidorina instead, but she's unbalanced by the interruption, leaving her open to the Larvesta's (Flame Charge?) She tumbles back with a slight cry. Her Pidgeot retaliates to the two Pokemon with a Whirlwind, seeking to blow them back.

Nozomi's captor holds on tight to the girl right up until she's about to get a Psyshock to the face; Nozomi will be pushed aside as she performs an athletic tumble to the right - tumbling right into Sneasel. The Ice Punch sends her tumbling even further, but probably not the way she intended. Staraptor's response is to shimmer in a Double Team before 5 different Staraptors swoop down to Wing Attack each of the opponents on the field.]

You ambush us and talk about a fair fight?

[Eri twirls lightly on her feet, slashing the air with her rapier and sending a wave of ice at the incoming Staraptors. While Živka and Jakša are blown back by the whirlwind, Dajana launches a Leech Seed onto the raider herself. Vratislav comes back around and this time launches into a rollout at one of the incoming Staraptors while the Spartak launches an ice punch at another.]

[You took the words right out of her mouth, Eri. And if she had been on proper footing when she was so suddenly tossed, she probably would have said so in unison. She quickly reaches for her cards.

Entirely done with these raiders' crap--especially since they made poor Miss Maki cry--Mithra charges his horn and throws his head back, a Poison Sting flying at the now airborne raider. Lakshmi takes a running leap at it, claws at the ready to strike the Pidgeot with a Fury Swipe.

Without needing to be told, Coeus immediately hovers toward Maki, a Light Screen enveloping her. Don't cry, Miss Maki, it's okay now! He gives a little reassuring wobble before floating back toward the heat of battle.

Helen, who has yet to leave, takes a deep breath, blowing a wide area Powder Snow at the airborne raider. She doesn't need temperature puns to put your ass on ice, lady.]

[ In a way, it's a little reassuring that Nozomi's Pokemon are protecting her, given that she doesn't exactly know what to do in this situation. There's something in her that wants to help though, not even noticing that her finger nails have started to turn into Purrloin claws, ready to Scratch or Growl at anyone who might come near her.

At the same time, watching Nozomi and Eri working together, makes her feel like she's not needed. The two of them are bringing the fight back to the raiders on their own, with their Pokemon too of course, and doing a hell of a lot to impress Maki.

Her whole fear of having to tell the raiders to leave them alone and just take Maki because she's rich seems to be unneeded. ]

[Two of the illusions fade away with the attacks from Eri's Pokemon; the remaining Staraptors swoop down towards their targets. The real one descends upon Helen and attempts to slam it hard with a Close Combat before swooping away while the illusions attempt to distract Mithra and Eri before they fade.

The Leech Seed is deftly swatted by the raider's spear and immediately implants choking vines all up and down it; she abandons her weapon and jumps backwards to hop onto her Pidgeot.

Staraptor's raider, recovering from the Ice Punch, can't do much but stab at Mithra as it launches the Poison Sting. Staraptor swoops back around after assaulting Helen, and she, too jumps back on.

The leader has risen too high to reach by physical attacks at this point, and seems to be prepared to depart.]

Give them a nice send off.

[And without further ado, the area below is enveloped in an intense Hurricane.]

You won't escape! Jakša!

[Responding to her partner's need, Jakša leaps into the air as does Eri. As they meet in midair, Jakša tucks her head and wraps into a ball in midair, allowing Eri to spring off her, enhancing her jump and sending her hurtling toward the raider. Gathering ice around her rapier, she launches an ice beam at the raider's mount]

[Eyes glowing, Nozomi draws a card from her deck and, foreseeing the assault, she turns toward the two.]

Mithra, Helen, look out!

[Both Pokemon moving out of the way, Helen leaves the woman with a parting shot--another quick Ice Punch aimed at her face. Mithra, inspired by the display from Jakša and Eri (seriously how are they doing that), focuses himself and then all at once charges the raider Helen targeted with a Peck.]

[ Hurricane? There's only one thing that Maki can do and that's to hug her arms tightly around herself, trying not to be swept away. This fight has gotten way out of hand, especially when she could easily afford to replace the goods stolen from them. ]

Be careful!

[ She manages to get to see Eri flying up after the raider, and can only help that she's isn't going to get herself more hurt. Maybe she can try to catch her? ]

[And because focus is shifting towards the Heatran threads, the intense storm unfortunately unbalances everyone in the winds, and Eri's last ditch effort goes slightly wide. The beam of cold will strike Pidgeot's wing... but it shrieks in outrage and keeps it stiffly outstretched to catch the updraft it's created to soar even higher.]

Safe landings.

[The raider will use the move Throw Traveling Pack at Eri's face as the girl drops... Well, it leaves them with something to get back to the city with, anyway. Like their leader, the other two raiders, too, stretch out their wings and instantly soar upwards on the intense wind (though the three girls may be pleased to see that the Hurricane winds smash them against each other halfway up). It isn't too long before they vanish into the sky.]
