Who: Asemu Asuno, Apollo, Eren Jaeger, Rise Kujikawa
What: Exploring the world map
Where: West Desert, into Crater Plains
When: June 15
Warnings: Excessive heat.

After several days of preparation, the expedition was on its way. Asemu had made certain to pack everything needed for a desert trip. Asemu himself was wearing a loose tunic with a hood -- in all-white, naturally -- with a one-gallon jug full of water resting in the backpack he wore on his back.

Of course, Asemu was a Fire-type Enlightened, so the heat bothered him much less than it would the average person. But he knew he would be out in it for a long time, and so he elected to be prepared for the trip.

And so far, so good. After traveling for a couple of hours, and using his Ponyta as a mount, he was still going strong.

"Whoa."

Asemu brought his Ponyta to a stop.

"Guys, did you hear that? Listen. Let's try to figure out where it came from."

He then followed his own advice. Closing his mouth and focusing his attention on the sounds of the environment, he listened.

Rise kept her mouth atypically shut and looked around with her mind, trying to feel out where the Pokémon - and she was pretty sure it was a Pokémon - was.

She also thought out loud - hopefully using telepathy instead of speaking won't keep the others from hearing. I think I recognize that cry. One of the Gigas soldiers in Caldera had one...oh, also, if you think back at me I think I can make everyone hear it so we don't have to talk.

One might have thought that Apollo, as a Child of the Verdant Forest, would be used to voices in his head, but he wasn't; he was used to emotions, images, and ideas, not actual words. He recovered quickly though and did as instructed.

I don't recognize it, but I can try and listen for whoever made it.

He extended his mental range to try and get a sense of the Pokémon's emotional state. In doing so there was a brief brush against the minds of the Pokémon in the party but it retreated quickly as he ignored the minds he recognized and tried to feel for any he didn't.

Eren stops Adelheide, and she nickers in annoyance.

Uhh.. I don't know how I feel about all this... telepathy stuff.

Eren doesn't like straight up words in his head like that. It's one thing for his pokémon, but for another human? Very strange.

Fig shifts anxiously on Eren's shoulder. Nope. Not just gonna stand there and wait! With a chittering whistle noise, he takes off and hovers close to the ground, trying to figure out where these mysterious possible new friends were!!

He's gone before Eren can even reach out to grab him. Damn floaty psychic types. He growls, then whispers harshly at him.

"FIG! Get back here! Don't just run off!"

[Those scanning the Pokemon will get the feel of really industrious emotions like "workin' hard" and "getting things accomplished". Those that advance will find themselves quite suddenly in a massive plain, with enormous craters punched into the earth all over. They definitely don't look natural, as if some powerful concussive force blasted them into the landscape.]

"Huh." Asemu crossed the threshold, keeping his voice low to help the others. "The Calderans said something about this, but seeing it with your own eyes is something else completely."

He dismounted from his Ponyta and began walking closer toward the nearest crater. He was curious about what could have created those craters, since they were obviously not natural formations. He rose up into the air, then slowly descended into the nearest crater, headed directly for the bottom. He was looking for clues, either about Pokémon in the area or what created these land formations.

The Pokemon do not appear to be creating the formations, but he does note that they appear to be using the formations to form their home. He can see they've created an impressive tunnel network within the craters.

"Huh." That was pretty interesting. That doesn't really answer the question of what created the craters, though, but it does bear some further investigation. He rose back up to ground level and motioned for the others to come take a look, then continued to rise into the air to see if he could spot anything unusual in the surrounding area from the sky.

"More tunnels, huh?" Everywhere she went, tunnels. These ones seem to be Pokémon-made, though, so that was interesting.

Rise was distracted from any further deep insights by Eren's Sigilyph floating off. She didn't want anyone getting separated and ganged up on by wild Pokémon, so she tries contacting him psychically, as an alternative to shouting after him.

Fig? Can you do me and your partner a really big favor and stick close?

Apollo dismounted and warped Sawsbuck back to Union to take a break before warping in Talonflame and sending him up to scout along with Asemu. He advanced forward to stand next to Rise.

Everyone seems focused on working hard. Hopefully they won't get angry if we disturb them, but we should still be careful.

Eren sighs and dismounts his Ponyta, quietly telling her to follow behind him. Time to go retrieve Fig.

Fig has other ideas. He lands on the ground next to one of the Dugtrio's holes and sticks his head in. "HELLO! Hello!! Hello, pokémon!" But before he can get an answer out of the weird little moles, Rise's "voice" echoes in his head and he takes to the air again.

Why? Huh, why?? I want to explore!! He complains psychically, then lets out a keening whistle aloud. Regardless, he whirls back to the group and lands on Adelheide's back. With Fig safe, Eren nods and shifts into Skarmory form, taking to the air himself. He's still not awesome at flying, but the desert offers warm thermal updrafts to carry him into the sky and hold him there.

"There's tons of these craters!"

The Dugtrio seem to startle at Eren's voice and pause working as he takes off. They're looking at each other trying to figure out what to make of the situation. Apollo gets the feeling that they've definitely noticed the whole group, and they're generally a bit curious, but not overly hostile.

As Eren flies up, he sees not just Dugtrio but other Pokemon as well making homes in the craters, although he can't quite make out what they are at this distance

Carefully, Asemu touches down in one of the other craters that looks like it might have a Pokémon in it. He pulls his hood down to better show his face, since he doesn't want them to feel threatened. While they're here, they should see what kinds of Pokémon call this place home, then report back with their findings when they get back to Union.

Talonflame shifts from sticking with Asemu to sticking with Eren, keeping one eye on the area around the trainers in case there's anything they need to be warned about, and the other on the distance to see what can be seen.

Apollo's encouraged by the reaction that they seem to be getting and starts sending feelings and ideas at the nearby Pokémon's minds: calmness, greetings, and the idea that they aren't here to harm any of the natives.

Several of the Dugtrio pop up to take a closer look. They semi-surround the party, but aren't making any threatening moves, definitely more curious than anything else. You have their attention, at least.

Asemu looked around, then dug his hand into one of the pockets on his backpack. Cupping one hand over the other, he slowly bent down and emptied his hands' contents onto the ground.

Left behind was a small mound of assorted berries. Asemu made sure to include at least one berry of each major flavor. He then took a few steps back to make sure he wasn't blocking any Pokémon's path.

[The Dugtrio are definitely interested now. Several of them sidle up and start chowing down on the berries with abandon]

Apollo smiles at the sight of the Dugtrio eating. He sends them a compliment on how much work they've obviously done here, but wonders where they get their food from; it seems pretty barren here.

Even with sharp avian eyes, Eren can't quite make out all the pokémon from up here. But there's surprising diversity out here! And those little brown mole guys are quite industrious, it seems. He looks over at Talonflame and addresses the other bird in Pokémon.

"Can you make out anything besides moving specks? Do you know what kind of Pokémon those brown guys are?"

"Hey, slow down. Make sure other Pokémon get some, okay? I've only got so many."

Asemu simply remained where he was, though. Best to simply observe for now.

Apollo gets the feeling that the Dugtrio are able to get their food from some underground growths, it seems like there's water underground somewhere.

Talonflame is able to give Eren the description of some of the other Pokemon it sees, among them a brown creature standing upright with ridges on its back and a large maw with sharp teeth, as well as an enormous brown and gray Pokemon with a bulbous body sunning itself in mud pools.

It sounds like it's not as barren underground as it is on the surface. There could be a lot more Pokémon around here than we're seeing.

Talonflame describes what it can see to Eren, along with a vague dig at Eren's eyesight.
