From what I've read regarding reports, my instinct tells me that we were closest to receive Caldera's message, and they were evaluating whether we could respond. After toying with us; they decided we could not successfully respond, and left. Especially when they found that we didn't share their ideology or methodology.

This being the entire point of disrupting our signals with their evolution device, and expecting their return. A simple and non-aggressive way to learn what they could about us.
