Who: Sanae and Takuto
When: Backdated to early January
Where: Citadel
What: A promised trip to Sanae's home

Sanae was apprehensive when she received the letter from the order to return, worried that she might be in for an extended stay. But with Takuto traveling with her, and with a plan of action to make sure that she would be able to return with little to no difficulty. This took a bit of heat away from the return voyage, and the teenage priestess-slash-actress could kill two birds with one stone: prove that she was doing good on her trip, as well as show the person she cared about most her home. It was only fair, after all.

The plains were somewhat unimpressive, covered with a heavy dusty of snow. Gliding over the land, the great tree finally came into view in all its majesty. From a distance, it appeared that it too was covered in snow, but on closer inspection, as they neared the city, it appeared to be in full bloom with pale pink, lavender and white flowers. Small settlements speckled the landscape leading toward the Citadel itself, with a steady flow of people moving to and fro.

Her chest filled with pride as she flew, looking toward the other teen with a grin of satisfaction clear on her face. "Welcome to Citadel."

Takuto, for his part, was suitably impressed.

"Whoaaaaaa. It's huge!"

"That's just the outside," She remarked, holding up a finger for emphasis. "It's much bigger on the inside." Beginning to decrease her altitude, she aimed to land toward one of the closer settlements. "But we won't go there just yet. I want to show you the marketplace first."

"I can't wait! C'mon! Let's go!"

Samehk huffs waspishly. He doesn't seem to be in a particular hurry, at least.

[ Come on, Samehk, there's probably fun stuff down here for you too, stop being a curmudgeon! Gliding down toward the surface, Sanae lands just outside of the grounds.

It's loud, the air practically buzzing with activity. Various smells waft through the air, and merchants call over the general noise for people to buy their wares. The square is full of color, life and laughter, despite the cold; it seems that they picked a good time to come.

Sanae took a deep breath, taking it all in. She couldn't remember the last time that she had come here. Turning toward Takuto, she smiled brightly. ]

Welcome to Citadel's marketplace!

Wow, this is amazing! Is it always like this?

Not always. I bet a couple of tribes just came in with new pelts and things like that. People will come from all over and sell their wares. Furs are pretty popular during this time of year, obviously, so negotiating prices can get really heated.

That doesn't sound like something you'd want to get caught in the middle of.

[ She smiles a bit, steepling her fingers near her lips. ]

It's fun to watch. The merchants get really into it.

Do you wanna go in? We can find something to eat, then head into the city.

Yeah, let's go!

[He'll let her lead on]

[ Lacing her fingers between his, Sanae led Takuto into the center of the action, the sounds and smells of the market drawing them in. It's as the priestess said--the square was bustling with activity and life, and while it seemed like the cutthroat merchants weren't here today, there was still much to see here.

Goods from places as far as Sanctuary made their way here, and Takuto might even recognize items from his own island being shown off in at least a few stands. The smell of sweet meat skewers wafted in the air, mixing with a number of different delicacies. And, in the distance, music could be heard. ]

Wow, where does all this come from? Does Citadel trade with everyone?

There are a lot of tribes that make up Citadel, and most of them are nomadic. Most people don't actually live in the tree. That's why the marketplace is so important, it, along with our Great Tree, brings together all the tribes of Citadel.

[ Can you see her swelling with pride? ]

I guess merchants from other cities have been coming here lately too. It's becoming a lot more like Union that way.

[ She pauses, taking a deep breath. ]

...That smells really good...

Let's get some then!

[He'll pull her excitedly in the direction of the stand]

[ She laughs a bit, letting herself be led. This was fun, she didn't get to do this very often. It didn't take them long to find where that smell was coming from, or to get food from that particular stand.

Looks like it's giant meat dumplings today! Careful, they're very hot. Sanae doesn't seem to want to wait, however, taking a giant bite from one and exhaling deeply. ]

Ihs hoh!

[ She laughed a bit again. ]

Are you OK?

[ She takes a moment to chew and swallow. ]

I'm great! This tastes great! You should try it!

[He tries a bite]

Wow, yeah! This is amazing!

[ That makes her even more happy. ]

Just wait until we get to the tree itself! It's beautiful there! And the temple... Obviously it looks a lot different in the winter than it does in the spring and summer, but it's still quite the sight to see!

So is it true that there are always flowers blooming in it?

Yep! Even in the dead of winter, our Great Tree continues to bloom.

Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!

[ She laughed, not quite expecting that amount of enthusiasm. ]

Okay! We'll have to fly over, the entrance is about a half hour from here, and pretty high up. I mean, you can get in from the roots, but it's a long climb up.

That's fine, Samehk should be able to do it.

[The dragon in question huffs a bit of flame as it emerges from the Warp Band. It will do as requested, but it won't do it graciously]

[ Sanae hasn't seemed to learn that Samehk only begrudgingly takes passengers. ]

Okay, let's go!

[ It's her funeral ~~probably~~ ]

[Samehk does as it is told, albeit huffily. After a bit of a ride, they are finally at the top of the tree]

Wow, this is amazing!

[ The settlement itself isn't nearly as grandiose as Union, but is still impressive in its own right. Many of the buildings serve as more functional uses, with people coming and going. The pathways are busy, with people moving across rope-and-plank bridges.

Strangely enough, once they arrive in Citadel proper, Sanae's usual bubbly demeanor is subdued, and while she describes the various places as they walk, it isn't with the same kind of vivacity she normally has. ]
