Eighth Dream: Swords and Other Stuff [Video/Action]
Video
[Today's video is a little different from the various reactions to the strange occurrences down in the tunnel. This one shows the interior of a martial arts school, and a woman in white taking a stance, holding up a practice sword. It's obvious that the woman has no idea what's going on with the video, as some piglike snickering and muffled croaking are evidence enough that some Pokemon are screwing around before a training bout.
Across the way, arms raised high are a pair of Pokemon, a Gallade and a Roserade. The two let out a sharp cry and charge forward, their weaponized limbs flying at Yuuna. She lets out a harsh kiai and raises her wooden weapon to meet the Pokemon.
What follows is a positively dazzling display of swordsmanship and martial training on the human's part as she nimbly fends off the Gallade's arms, while simultaneously dodging the Roserade. Wood clacks against Pokemon bone, and it's obvious the trio is having a great time as the minutes tick by. The spar ends when Yuuna manages to unbalance her Gallade and get him to tip over, falling onto the Roserade and pinning his partner. Stepping back, panting and wiping her brow of the profuse sweat she's worked up, she bows and drops the blade.]
Your turn, Gouken!
[From out of nowhere, a Hitmonchan rushes in, charging Yuuna full tilt and leading with a fist. She laughs breathlessly and ducks aside, barely avoiding the strike and catching her partner by the elbow. A simple jerk and he's airborne, coming down on the mat as she tosses him in a shoulder throw. It's obvious that they've been doing this together for years and years, if their expressions are any indication but today's different. Apparently today they have an audience.
As Gouken hits the mat, both he and Yuuna look up in time to see the Warp Band being on. Eyes widening, they freeze and quickly right themselves. Briskly the duo crosses the floor and sits, clearly glaring at something off screen.]
Sorry everyone. Apparently Shinji and Geshiko decided it'd be a good idea to make you watch some of our practices. Which...I guess makes as good an advertisement as anything. Get over here...
[At a gesture, the Roserade and Gallade scuttle over to join their trainer, and a sullen looking Primeape and Toxicroak slink in as well.]
Okay. For those that don't know me, my name is Yuuna Sugasawa from the Rangers. I teach martial arts and self defense classes at Yashio's Dojo, and I've been doing joint work with Fei Fong Wong's school as well.
Our school's always taking on new students, and with as weird as things have been lately, I can honestly say there's no better time to start taking lessons. We primarily work with non-Enlightened, but we do have a few students with supernatural abilities as well. What we do runs the gamut of the very basics to some pretty advanced classes meant to help defend against people and Pokemon who are stronger than a normal human. The same applies for swordplay, and the owner, Master Yashio? Is as fine an archer as I've ever met.
[She smiles as warmly as she can, letting out a huff of breath.]
If I'm not here because of Ranger work, he is, and he'll train you even better than me. Our prices are pretty reasonable, so if you have the time and the inkling, come by. The first three lessons are free, and I don't want to sound like a salesman, but I do recommend taking up some sort of self defense. It's been an eventful year, after all.
[A pause.]
Oh, Martin? I was right about Roselia.
[And with that, she closes down the video.]
Action at the Dojo and Business District
[For the remainder of the day, Yuuna's at the school, practicing and helping take care of interested parties after her impromptu ad. After that it's off to shop, because she has some ideas and thoughts. She can be found in flower shops, wineries, and a couple of fine dining places getting stuff to go. Fancy stuff.]
Action at Home, Closed to Merrill
[With all that stuff gathered up, Yuuna heads straight home and enters without fanfaire. Looking around, she calls out.]
Merrill dear, are you home? I brought dinner!

It's the thing people say, after all, but Maka still looks mareepish as she tries to think about how to put her questions into words.]
...Miss--[she cuts herself off, shaking her head as if scolding herself. "No, stupid, she didn't like that, use her name."] Um, Yuuna...you said you work with some Enlightened, but what if they're not...
[A pause, experience isn't the problem, so she shouldn't say that.]
...Very strong? I'm Psychic and Fairy...and I've had this scythe that my dad gave me for a long time, but I could never lift it, so I'm wondering if it'd be allowed to have a student like me at your school.
[Another pause.]
I--I would work hard to make up for not being strong!

I do work with enlightened, and I do work with people who aren't very strong. The goal is to work with you to make you stronger, after all.
[Though a scythe? What? Who gives a tiny girl like that a scythe?]
And...yes? You're more than welcome to come with whatever weapon you want, and I won't make you work any harder than anyone else. Unless you want to.

[But it also comes off as desperate, doesn't it.]
I'll still do my best, no matter what amount of work you give me. If that's okay.
[Maka couldn't explain how or why her father had the scythe no matter how much she tried. Yet, she still ended up with it and she still hasn't a single clue of how to use it.]

[Yuuna rolls her shoulder, reaching off camera to pick up a heavy naginata and giving it a practiced twirl. Just to show she has an idea of what she's talking about.]
Scythes are farm tools but I can work with that. You can lift it alright, yeah?

Yes, I can.
[Lift, just not swing without falling off-balance.]
--Could--could I learn to use different weapons, too? [Maka, one thing at a time.]

[Yuuna smiles good naturedly.]
You have noodles for arms. Lifting it isn't the same as swinging it properly. You're going to have to build up muscle.

[She absolutely knows that's true but it still makes her cheeks turn pinker than a Jigglypuff's behind.]

But there's no need to be embarrassed. You're pretty young, and I was a pretty scrawny kid when I was your age too. Prolly more than you.

[Maka of course you don't have fighting experience, you're fifteen.]
...But there are people younger than me that don't worry about it, so I shouldn't either.

[Really, truly, that's why Yuuna gets involved in mess, so other people don't have to.]
Either way, it's something you'll learn with time.
