bravenewworld | Sixth Sword

[This evening's entertainment is brought to you by Someone Giving Brigadier the Warp Band. He waves at everyone before turning the Band towards the center of the Swords' training ground, where Martin and Boar are training, watched by several recruits (and a few of the older members because Martin with a sword is fun to watch). It's basic sword fighting, with Boar swinging at Martin who deflects it with his Enhanced sword and tries to get at Tiria, Aubertia, or Sunflash behind him.

Anyone who understands Pokémon will hear Brig say he's been doing this all week and that he's probably going to have to rest next week. He's been training like crazy. If they hang around the Swords, they'll have seen it for themselves.

From the fight:]

Come on, Boar, I know you're better than that!

[In Poke: "Well yeah but you've been training like crazy! I think you're stronger than me now!"]

Use Pursuit on me, then. Come on!

[Boar glances at the other 'mons behind him, who shrug. He shakes his "head" and starts chasing after Martin, who makes to dodge and block his Honedge.

Only there's this pink glow that surrounds Martin, blinding Boar who falls to the ground. When it fades, Martin's natural glow, previously faintly Ghost-type purple, now has hints of Fairy-type pink and his dark hair has a streak of golden-brown in it.

Also his sword's red pommel stone is kind of glowing.

Martin just looks at the sword and runs his hands over his hair before looking at his Honedge and the surrounding observers]

...Is there any way to tell if you gained any extra powers when you evolve?

[A chance to watch Martin the Warrior do actual training? His life had taken some drastic turns in the last couple of weeks...some good, some awful, but for the most part Matthias had been sure that he couldn't get any more happy until this. It was like watching every dream he'd had since childhood unfold right in front of his eyes.

And then Martin evolved. And Matthias' staff and jaw hit the floor at roughly the same time.

Even if he had words to say, they'd probably be unintelligible, so just have an awkward teenager staring dumbfoundedly at you.]

[While Martin sorts this mess out, Brigadier the Mankey cuts the feed and goes over to pick up Matthias's staff, closing his mouth with it and poking him in the side.

He was told to look out for the kid. This is how he does that.]

[Well, that was a quick way to snap him out of his stupor; he even shook his head a little, as if he were still trying to figure out if this WAS some kind of dream or not...but no, the poke in the side was definitely an indication that he was very much awake, so he thanked Brigadier for his staff back before slowly turning back to Martin.]

I'm...not sure about powers but you seem very...

[Don't say pink. Don't say pink. Do not under any circumstance say pink Matthias of Union.]

Pink...

[Savior dammit all...]

I really wish I could see my glow in the daylight...

[Again with the pink]

At least it's not a very bright glow...just. A noticeable one.

I-it's not bad at all though! You glow very admirably!

[Nice save Matthias.]

[Martin chuckles]

Thank you. [He thinks] I think I've gained a Fairy-typing, if I'm pink.

In edition to your ghost-typing?

[Just excuse him for a minute, his inner Pokemon Habitat instincts are kicking in. Matthias took a few steps towards Martin, his head tilted to one side quizzically as he took in the changes to his friend.]

I've...never even heard of any Pokemon that shares that typing...this is rather unprecedented isn't it?

So is dying and coming back to life. I think I'm destined to be "unprecedented", really.

[He just lets Matthias get a good look at him. He's used to this sort of thing (thank you doctors)]

My hair feels odd.

o-oh...my apologies.

[Way to be an ass about things Matthias. It's enough of a pointed statement to get him to back off and look away slightly...the hair question he can help with.]

it...it looks like you have a streak in your hair now...golden brown it looked like.

[He hadn't meant to upset him, but. Well. It's been months know. He'd like to not be an oddity soon]

That's odd. No one in my family's ever had that color. Are you sure? Does anyone have a mirror?

[Well...he didn't have a mirror per say, but he did have a tendency to keep his thermos cups rather well maintained, meaning the metal was rather reflective. He rummaged around in his cloak before handing it over, still not quite having the courage to look Martin in the eye just yet.]

T-this should work...I think...I usually use them to...make sure my hair's in order.

[Matthias you adorable thing. Aubertia can't help but float over and start cooing over him in Poké, something about how he's such a sweetheart.

Martin ignores that while he tries to get a look at his hair]

I think I've seen Pikachu or Raichu this color...but I don't feel like an Electric-type.

[Matthias doesn't understand Pokélanguage, but he can understand the general jist of the cooing, not that it makes him feel any less like he just personally offended his hero.]

I'm...not entirely sure what it could mean...but a sudden electric-type evolution usually has side effects so...

[He reached into his cloak once more and produced a simple compass...nothing special and upon flipping it open, it didn't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary either.]

Sometimes...at the Habitat when electric types would evolve...it would make compasses go haywire because of the sudden electromagnetic discharge...so I think it's safe to say you're not electric type.

[He doesn't sound entirely confident though. Mostly because he doesn't want to make a further ass of himself by being wrong.]

[Martin has no idea Matthias thinks he was offended--he wasn't, really, just resigned.

He hums]

So a Ghost/Fairy. That's going to be interesting when we finally leave Union.
