A Very Merry Hobo Birthday... To You!

Who: A whole lot of losers (this can mean you). Specifically, Ankh, Eiji, probably all of the Senshi, Martin, Elly and Fei. Nozomi? Possibly more Love Lives?? A WHOLE LOT OF LOSERS... I tagged everybody I knew would be here that I knew the canons for. :<
What: Hino Eiji's birthday!!
When: October 22! All day, all night, as long as y'all wanna celebrate this hobo.
Where: Hikawa Shrine.

He was pretty sure Rei had said something about it being Eiji's birthday. He didn't actually care overmuch, since she had come to him with the request that he take Eiji and distract him until a specific time, and given him the idea of making him buy ice cream. Ankh liked ice cream. In fact, it was about his favorite thing. So when it had been suggested that he could force Eiji into buying him some, whilst still fulfilling some kind of request from Rei, it meant he was getting ice cream and having the grumpy Shrine Maiden indebted to him (at least, in his own mind). So while there was the vaguest of concepts in his head that this was a distraction for some kind of celebration in honor of Eiji, he was mostly interested in the fact that he was making the vagrant buy him something.

And so here they were, Ankh dragging Eiji by the sleeve, heading into town.

"You walk too slow, how do you walk this slow? You're taller than I am."

Ami felt incredibly out of place, not because she didn't know how to attend upper-class parties, her mother's insistence on attending finishing school essentially saw to Ami being able to function at any venue. But it was more that Ami had no idea who anyone was and felt out of place going to a birthday party when she didn't know the guest of honor.

Still, Rei had invited her and Ami wasn't really able to say "no" anymore to Rei than she was Usagi or the other girls (except when it came to studying). She looked around, her baby Cottonee, Arber, in her arms since the little fluff ball was to young to leave alone by herself and Aurora a constant by her side. The massive Luxray let out a long purr as she saw the raven-haired priestess long before Ami did.

She came up beside the other girl and offered a small smile.

"You look very nice, Rei-chan." Was she doing a good job in hiding how uncomfortable she felt in such a situation, Rei? She hoped so.

Rei smiled up at Ami, setting down her cup and giving her friend a small smile. She had some idea how the other girl felt, thanks to her keen powers of observation (and maybe a little bit of those psychic talents). Ami wasn't exactly broadcasting that she was uncomfortable, but it wasn't difficult for someone who knew her to guess that she felt out of place.

Patting the chair next to her, she replied, "Thank you. You too, Ami-chan. Why don't you and Aurora join me?" The Cottonee gets a special, appraising look. "And you too, of course."

Ami was instantly grateful for such a familiar face and a much more calming situation. She took the offered seat and Aurora preened as her tail swished. She nodded her head to Rei, the regal creature quite content with the attention.

The cottonee let out a long "Neeeee" as she waved her little leafy arms. Sitting meant she could nap, right? She loved napping. Maybe she could get Aurora to nap with her?

"I don't think you've met Arber yet, have you?"

With Ami sitting next to Rei, she was becoming more and more comfortable with the situation. Cottonee's trill helped, since the warm, fluffy puff ball was incredibly cute to watch.

Rei in turn brightened, as did Deimos, when the pair of psychics felt her relax a bit more. The priestess favors the little fluffball with a ready smile, reaching out to brush a finger along a stray wisp of...whatever it was cottonee were made out of.

"I haven't yet, no. She's adorable, though. How long have you been bonded to her?"

Deimos drops out of her chair, the Gardevoir elegantly settling down next to Luxray, happy to let the young women talk and attend to catching up with Pokemon business.

"Just a week or so now. Actually, Arber essentially flew into my arms. Cottonees travel wherever the wind takes them and she ended up nearly colliding with me. She was more than content to bond with me, but she's pretty content about everything. She sleeps almost as much as a Snorlax," she laughed as she stroked the drowsy Cottonee in her arms.

"She's still very young so I suspect that she's not used to traveling on the winds yet. When she's a bit older I'll feel more comfortable by her staying at home."

Rei listens to the miniature lecture, happy to just let Ami explain as she always did. It was sweet, as well as educational, and she cannot help but run a palm along Arber's puffiness. She's really, really soft and that's just incredibly adorable.

"That's probably best that you do keep a watch on her. We wouldn't want her blowing away, would we?"

"No, most certainly not. And she has a very calming presence, but all my pokemon are relatively calm and good-natured. I've been incredibly fortunate with all the pokemon I've bonded with. Though now that I think about it, Rei, have you met my Cyndaquil? I don't believe I have introduced him to you yet. He's a very sweet pokemon, likes to snuggle next to me. All my pokemon are prone to cuddling."

Aurora let a snort. Not really denying her fondness for it either, but then, she was raised by Ami. She is far more regal, though, than the tiny Cottonee. She flicks her tail over to Rei's pokemon. For as smart as Ami was, it was surprising she didn't seem to notice her inclination for pokemon prone to cuddling.

"No, I don't think I have. Though...actually I don't think you've met Ravi or Sabaeus yet, either. Perhaps some introductions are in order? Especially considering how much cuddling you seem to be doing with them, I know I'd like to meet them."

Deimos smooths a hand along her sides, like she's trying to rearrange a non-existent skirt, and nods at Aurora. She agrees completely. Your trainer is very bright, but sometimes doesn't seem to see the bigger picture, if it pertains to herself. Though, her own isn't that much different, seeming to favor Pokemon that are loyal and enjoy sleeping around her.

"A play-date, perhaps, with all of our pokemon? It's highly recommended that pokemon who are bonded remain well socialized with pokemon outside of their own group to ensure positive relationships with pokemon when no longer in the wild. After all, some pokemon who may have had predator/prey relationships in the wild need to realize different circumstances occur when bonded. So I think it's all the better for a play date. Perhaps we should invite all the girls."

She could already hear Usagi's exclamations of glee at the idea of one giant play-date.

"But who are Ravi and Sabaeus?"

Rei nodded in agreement, completely seeing where Ami was coming from. It sounded like an excellent idea, a way to socialize some of her more quiet or sleepy Pokemon. Ami’s reasoning was, naturally, a bit more logical and rooted in science…but she couldn’t refute it. Especially not when it would also mean getting together with the entire group, like at the beach. It’d make Usagi happy, certainly…and Minako. And she enjoyed very much seeing how her Pokemon were developing bonds and friendships of their own with her friend’s.

Though, her thoughts shift as Ami asks about two of her newest, two she’s come to realize are likely tied in some way to that past life. Or the future. And…something happens the minute Ami says those names out loud, almost as if a Pokemon had been waiting to show itself.

Rei’s shadow begins to move, shifting and writhing of it’s own accord, and a pair of orange eyes peer out of it at the blue-haired girl.

“Gen-Gengar!” the shadow says, a mouth appearing, grinning like the Cheshire Cat. How are you today, Miss? He’s happy to meet you for the first time, though he’s been watching you since you arrived.

“This, Ami-chan, is Sabaeus.”

Ami always came from the logical standpoint. Even when she got emotional, she knew exactly where and how it was affecting her body and the reasons for it in many areas of the brain and chemicals. She could recognize stress factors, endorphins, adrenalin, whatever there was to know about the body, she would learn it, memorize it. She didn't know how to be any different and she didn't want to be.

She watches the shadow gain a mouth and become a Gengar, she focused her gaze on the ghost intently and examined him as much as he seemed to be examining her. She offered a nod of her head to the ghost.

"A pleasure, Sabaeus, to meet you."

Seemingly pleased, the ghost remains where it is, but materializes more fully, offering out a purple hand to shake. If Ami takes it, she'll feel a chill, unnatural and totally different from her icy-self...and if not? Well it still gets colder.

"He's...actually got a dual purpose there," Rei explains with a small smile, patting the ghost on the head. "He keeps the temperature around me a bit lower. Since I evolved...I've needed it a bit more."

Ami takes the purple claw and shakes it. It is chilly, even for one like her, as it isn't a sort of cold induced by weather so much as it is one induced by the supernatural. She tries not to shiver, however.

"Congratulations on evolving, Rei-chan. Do you know what you are able to do?"

"My flames are much more powerful than before," Rei answers with a small shrug and a ready smile, her finger catching ablaze as a casual demonstration. "As for the rest of me? No, not really. I haven't had much chance to test my psychic abilities. Or much cause, thankfully."

The claw pulls back, and Sabaeus disappears back into the shadow, seemingly melting away...and the other Pokemon mentioned decides now is the time to make his appearance.

By hopping out from under a bush and landing on Ami's head.

Ami glances up at the Natu. She giggles as she reaches up for the Natu.

"Ah, hello, Ravi. A pleasure to meet you too." Ami kept her head still so as not to disturb the Natu. The Cottonee wasn't very disturbed, mostly asleep at that point.

Ami returned her gaze back to Rei and tilted her head.

"Would you like to?"

The little bird chirped and nuzzled against her hand, clearly enjoying the fact that someone was paying attention to him. His eyes glowed faintly, though, and he sent her a little psychic nudge, a feeling of appreciation and gratitude, coupled with the word Friend flashing over and over a few times.

"Like to what?" Rei answered, "Test my psychic abilities? That...would depend on what you have in mind."

"My mind, to be precise," she said as she chuckled and offered her arms next to her Cottonee in place of a spot on her head. She appreciated the thoughts of friendship.

"Or your fire abilities meeting ice and water. I am both your strongest and weakest opponent, in friendly training only, of course! I would never want to be your actual opponent, Rei-chan. But I have a suspicion about mental capacity and psychic types, if you would indulge the inquiry?"

Rei looks a little unsure for a moment, as the idea of actually using her abilities against anyone she liked, even in friendly training, wasn't high on her priorities list. But the way Ami had phrased it she had something else in mind.

"What's the inquiry?"

"Well, psychic abilities are a matter of extrasensory abilities, or the ability to be more aware and use that awareness to do all sorts of things. Pokemon and Enlightened can use their abilities to make actual manifestations of those abilities in different forms. Some psychic abilities, however, can be thrown off by pokemon with certain abilities. Take for example, the ability: Keen Eye. It is not something to be taught, merely observational skills on the part of the pokemon yet it ensures that accuracy cannot be lowered, something many psychic moves from pokemon can cause. Or "Own Tempo," something that allows pokemon to avoid confusion, a very common result from psychic attacks.

My inquiry rests on does it depend on the type, or the mind? An Avalugg who has Own Tempo, is it able to throw off the confusion due to the mind or because of something else?

You are able to help me answer that question! With you, the chance to test this hypothesis will not only be done safely and carefully, but we can record real data and measurable results!"

Ami had gotten so excited about explaining her scientific inquiry that her voice rose a little in volume.

Rei listens to Ami's rather excited explanation in full, letting her get it out of her system before responding. Because Savior knows she doesn't want to interrupt the normally quiet girl, no. Getting Ami to be this chatty was something rare.

"Alright, Ami-chan. I don't mind helping you at all. But, how would we go about it? What's the experiment?"

When Ami finishes, she smiles and she grabs Rei's hand, incredibly pleased that she would help.

"Meet me in the flower grove, we'll go from there. And who knows, it may attract some pokemon in the process. But the experiment will be mild psychic actions on your part and my attempts to work through what you are doing with my own mental capacities."

Rei laughs gently, nodding along.

"Alright, we can do that. I'll bring Deimos to make sure you stay healthy. Her healing powers will help."

"And I will bring a picnic to maintain energy levels. It will be like when we first met."

"Except hopefully Isidis will be a little more awake. He's gotten a bit fat and lazy since he evolved..."

"Perhaps my little Horsea and Aurora could get him active. They're the most active. I have a whole team of snugglers," she laughed, not realizing that that reflected more on her than on the pokemon themselves.
