Who: Rei Hino & Usagi Tsukino
Where: Somewhere in the Canyon / Deep Canyons.
When: A few days after the Heatran event!
What: It's just another journey on the road of friendship... no seriously it is.
"Are we there yeeeeeeeeeeeet?"
The sound of Usagi's whining voice is the only thing that's heard out on the frontier outside of the sounds of nature around them. After the whole entire fiasco with the Citadel and the really really really mean Valkyries that they had to deal with, Usagi had just planned on staying at home and relaxing for a few days.
The next thing she knew, she had been called up by one Rei Hino and demaded that she be ready early the next morning. It had taken a little bit of convincing, but in the end, Usagi couldn't say no to fire priestess. Going outside of Union with someone was really the smarter thing to do, if the past week had proven. So, she had woken up super early and after breakfast that had been insisted by Usagi's mother, they had begun their trek southwest from Union. Through the Verdant Forest and now they were in the flatter lands between the forest and the canyons.
"I know I said I'd go with you, Rei-chan, but, did we have to go out this far?" Usagi re-adjusts her pack for the umpteenth time since their journey had begun, shooting a pitiful pout the other girls' way while Pinky, strangely enough, is on the ground this time, strolling next to her human partner instead of on her usual perch of Usagi's head.

"Usagi-chan," Rei replied with a twitch of her eyebrow, "I told you before...we're just going to see the canyons. I read about them and felt they might be interesting. We've only been walking for a few hours at most."
Beside her, Casius, the Growlithe who'd decided Rei was the greatest friend that ever did friend let his tongue loll happily and looked back at the blonde girl and Pinky. His big, brown doggy eyes beamed, and Usagi might get the impression of excited acceptance. It's okay! We're going somewhere great! Yes, great! Lots of interesting new smells!
"I did tell you to wear comfortable shoes, didn't I?"
no subject
Well, seeing that Casius was enjoying this walk at least lifts up Usagi's mood. Not by much, but, at least someone was having a blast and she couldn't fault the pokemon for it. Usagi just heaves a sigh, and glances down at her feet at the prompting of her shoes. She had worn the most comfortable shoes she had since they were going outside the City, but...
Suddenly, she's assaulted by a rather large yawn. One of those big yawns that makes the eyes water that are also accompanied with a outward stretch.
"I could use a good meal and a good nap right about now..."
Pinky, while Usagi is otherwise occupied with complaining, notices that the grass is thinning out considerably now, but doesn't say anything as she scampers on far, far ahead until she stops. What she's found is the cliff edge of the Canyon's that they've been traversing for, and man, is it a beautiful view.

She and Casius both quickened their pace, trotting up beside Pinky and looking out into the jagged, scarred landscape. It's an impressive view, really, like a giant raked fingernails along the ground. Spearow and other flying types swooped and dove in the distance, obviously having a nest somewhere deep in the canyon, a fact Rei makes note to avoid. The beedrill attack had been annoying enough, no reason to repeat that mistake.
"See, Usagi-chan?" she called back, but the sound was drowned out by Casius' excited bark. See! See! New smells! Come sniff!

"If we're almost there," Which, really, Usagi's glad for that. She was honestly getting tired of all the walking without a break! "then that means we can have ... lunch.... now....." Usagi's voice trails off completely as soon as she catches up completely to Rei and the excited pokemon. Her eyes widen in surprise at the view before her.
There was something to be said about not expecting much, and then beholding something as expanse and breath taking at this. There were so many large pillar like structures of desert rock, scattered around the canyon in a natural design. And from where they had ended up, she could see so many different pokemon! So different than the ones from the forest around the city!
"It's... it's so BIG! I've never seen anything like this!"
no subject
"I never thought I'd be seeing things like this at all. But then...well, I guess I never thought I'd be out and training Pokemon, either."
Her eyes gleam, positively radiating excitement and curiosity. There was another feeling about this place, a calling. They needed to be here, she thought. Or this place would hold some significance for one of their Pokemon, perhaps. These sorts of psychic tugs were a little unclear, but for the moment she was content to just stare at the majestic sight before them.
"I...almost wish I had a camera, honestly...Grandpapa would love this."
no subject
Oh. Oh goodness, they were pretty high up, weren't they. With a hard swallow, Usagi just takes a few stiff steps backwards and looks back up so she doesn't start panicking.
Pinky's ears perk up when Rei laments about the lack of a camera and soon she's left her perch on the cliff to walk up to Usagi and tug on the backpack that her human partner had been lugging around. "Hm? ... What is it, Pinky?" Usagi slips the pack off her shoulders and holds it out for Pinky. The Clefairy starts searching around until she pulls out a small travel camera.
Nothing very fancy, and in fact, it looks pretty cheap. "I forgot Papa made me bring this! Thanks, Pinky!" The Clefairy gets a nice pat on the head as she waves the item around above her head. "I got a camera! Let me take a picture of you, Rei-chan!"
no subject
"I'll take one of you next, of course."
no subject
Usagi takes a few steps back, lifting the camera to her eye so she can make sure to get a good picture as well as to make sure that she's got Rei and all her pokemon in the picture, "Say cheese!" And with a click of the shutter, she's got the picture!
"My turn my turn!" Scampering forward, Usagi holds out the camera for Rei to take before she taps on her warp band and calls out Niku, Lucky, Brain the Slowpoke and Hoppy the Skiploom. If Rei was going to have all her pokemon in the picture, then she would too!
no subject
"Alright, Usagi-chan! Say cheese!"
She takes several shots, focusing on Usagi and a different pokemon each time. They were just as important, after all, and should have memories of the trip all their own. When she's done, she turns it around to show her new friend the photos, fully expecting squeals of delight...
no subject
"The pictures look awesome!" She's very genuine with her compliment, and yes, she's squealing. Usagi then carefully takes the camera from Rei's hands and then turns it around, slipping her finger onto the shutter button before wrapping an arm around the girl's shoulder and grinning. "And now, a pic with both of us! Cheese!"
Yep. That's right. It's a selfie with a bestie. No trip is complete without one.
no subject
When she manages to pull away, only slightly hurriedly, she points over towards the path Casius had found.
"Shall we head down inside? Maybe we'll be able to find a new Pokemon down there. Or find something else interesting."
no subject
"We're still walking more?"
Usagi had expected after pictures that they'd just sit around and do nothing. Looks like she was absolutely wrong and the whining begins anew. "I thought we were going to take a real break..."
no subject
Casius is already heading towards the path, so is Deimos. So...sorry Usagi-chan, it's Rei's way or the highway today.
no subject
"Well, you guys are already out. Try not to go too far, okay?" Her pokemon make sounds of excitement at being able to run free in a place that isn't Union and the Habitat, and Usagi can't help but smile at how excited they all are.
... that is until she realizes that Rei and her own pokemon are already far ahead. "Rei-chan! Wait for me! Don't leave me behiiiiiiiiiiiind!" Time to play catch up!
no subject
"Usagi-chan, honestly...I'm not going to leave you. But if you stand around like that a slowbro could leave you in the dust."
no subject
Idly thoughts aside, she just jogs up until she's next to Rei and then just takes everything in a leisurely stroll. "You know, this is really the first time I've ever gone outside the forest."
no subject
"It's...my first time leaving it too, but I feel like you've been a trainer a little while longer than me. Consider me surprised, Usagi-chan. Maybe we should go new places more regularly."
no subject
"I usually stayed in the Forest because at least if I got lost there I could get home easier than if I were farther away."
The fact that Rei makes the observation about her training status makes her blush and puff up her chest a little bit in pride. "I've been a trainer for a few months actually!"
no subject
Either way. They're heading down into the canyon proper now, getting off the path and into the winding tunnels. Casius leading the way, snuffling along, they don't really make great time...but they are seeing some pretty amazing sights. Windcarved tunnels, boulders worn smooth by time and the elements, and even the odd Diglett hard at work!
no subject
At some point, Usagi will take a step - and then feel something suddenly shift beneath her.
no subject
"Have we found a place to eat lunch yet, Rei-chan?" She says as she's trying to walk around a rock that's a bit too large to just step over. As she's making her way over it, she glances up at Rei with the most pathetic pout ever. "I don't think I can take another step until I've eaten!"
And like that, she carefully slides herself down, and as she steps down, blinks when the ground shifts. It startles her enough that she lets out a short shriek before hopping backwards and pressing back against a rock surface. "S-S-Something moved under my foot!"
no subject
At least, not until Usagi starts screaming, anyway. She freezes and turns slowly, eyes tracking down to the ground. Casius' does the same, the loyal pooch so very, very set on protecting his keeper and her friend.
"Careful, Usagi-chan. If it's a Pokemon you don't want to frighten it or it might attack."
no subject
The panicked rock will turn around abruptly and run.
...Right into a wall.
no subject
The bird pokemon takes its cue after watching the debacle from up on high and swoops down and starts flapping its wings so that the sand starts blowing away from both her trainer and Rei. When it starts to clear up a little more, Usagi takes a chance and peeks through the sand just in time to focus on the discolored rock body....
....that's smacked into a wall.
".... huh?"
no subject
That just...ran into a wall.
"...wow."
Lineface. So much lineface.
