The Raids

[As the people of Union begin to move out into the plains, they'll find that the Councilor's warnings were apt. Though not everyone is targeted, it isn't long before a few unlucky travelers find themselves on the receiving end of the same type of attack. The bandits, whoever they might be, are experts at swooping out of the blue, striking so swiftly that the victims almost never even catch a glimpse of them.

How exactly will they put this to a stop? There's so many, it seems impossible to take them out one group at a time... Perhaps they have a base somewhere.]

((This post is for both groups who wish for mods to run and players to thread freely amongst themselves. You may feel free to handwave having been attacked and thread the aftermath of that event. Please respond to the appropriate section depending on where your character is. Thanks!))

Ky Kiske glanced over to the men he's with - he's somewhat familiar with Jade Curtiss, but only knew that Eren Jaeger was a Ranger. Purposely baiting raiders was perhaps not the smartest idea anyone has, but it's better then sitting around and doing nothing.

"We should be ready - they could attack at any time, and they'll have terrain advantage," He started as he petted his flaffy on the head absentmindedly. "We'll just have to make them think we're a weaker target then we really are to catch them off guard..."

It was pretty easy to look weak when you're as young and baby-faced as Eren is. He doesn't have his swords on him, and he's not wearing his Ranger gear. He's tried his best to hide his nature as a shifter by wearing long, loose pants. The only Pokémon with him is Adelheide, the rapidash, simply adorned with a leather saddle and matching saddlebags. But his swords -- and a giant t-rex -- are just a warp band away.

Adelheide twitches her ears, alert for any sounds. Eren nods at Ky.

"I have a tyrantrum at the ready. They won't know what hit them."

Jade is, for once, not in his Ranger uniform, having abandoned it in favour of something less distinctive. He also has his Rapidash with him, laden with packs that are actually empty. He nods in agreement at Eren's words.

"As do I, but we'll have to be attacked first." His Talonflame is circling the skies up above, but everything seems peaceful so far.

He turns to smiles at Ky. "What do you think, Ky? Do we look weak?"

Ky had similarly abandoned his uniform, dressing in a traveling gear - consisting of a shirt, trousers, and a cloak, materials that showed he had some wealth. His Magnemite kept itself hidden under his cloak. He stepped away, giving them a look over before nodding.

"I believe so - I believe they would perceive us as an arrogant noble and under-equipped body guards or servants." He makes a small gesture, letting a quiet breath. "All right, we should get moving."

As the three set off away from Union towards the northeast, they will find the going relatively uneventful. It can't be expected to happen immediately, of course, but wandering around looking for someone to attack you can be awfully boring.

Maybe they should have worn a bright red sign or something.

Sometime much, much later, the observant may pick up on something odd. The call of birdsong that's served as a relatively consistent companion has faded...

Ky slowed down as the day went on, the hair on the back of his neck stood up, and he visibly tenses. He glanced over to the other men, as if to confirm if they got the same sense of foreboding that he did.

[There is definitely a strange silence now as they continue to walk forward...

And then, without any seeming warning, a stream of what seems to be fire blazes across their path.]

[Jade had been tense for awhile now, his finely-honed instincts telling him that something was wrong, even though it's awhile before he realizes that it's the sudden silence. But nothing could have prepared him for the sudden blaze of fire. His Rapidash spooks, its fiery mane blazing even brighter, and Jade jumps back instinctively, his arm going up to shield his eyes.

He's still not entirely familiar with his new powers, so it takes him a few seconds to set up a Reflect around their team.]

What's happening?

[By then, the surprise had faded from his body language, and he merely sounds serious.]

Foreboding indeed. Something wasn't right, not with how silent everything had gone.

Then the fire explodes across the path. Adelheide rears, and Eren only barely manages to hang on to her reins and calm her down.

"Hold... it's just fire..." he whispers to her. Eren turns his eyes to the side of the path, looking for the source of the flame.

Ky's cape rustled as the Magnemite grew agitated, and sparks flew from both Flaffy and man.

"It seems like the welcoming party has finally showed up. Get ready!"

[It's actually just a tad bit worse than that as the Dragonbreath will severely harm the Rapidash if they touch it. From above, the source of the attack descends...

A very large and fluffy source of attack...

There are a few more dots circling in the air above it, but the great bird quickly descends to meet the trio.]

[It's a bird! It's a cloud! It's a...bird in a cloud?

Whatever it is, Jade is caught by surprise. An aerial attack isn't something he usually faces, and he had been busy searching for the source of the fire. This bird doesn't look like a fire type at all.

He doesn't have time to examine the situation thoroughly as he's busy putting some distance between himself and the Altaria, but he sees enough to realize there are more enemies circling overhead. His Talonflame might be in danger if it stays up in the air.]

Talonflame, return!

[His Pokemon dives down, straight at the Altaria, kicking at its head.]

The Magnemite flew out from under Ky's cape, both electric pokemon sparking in response to the intruder.

"Bring down the enemies, but do not attack the Talonflame!" Ky called out as he pointed towards the blue birds, his own fingertip sparking.

And the two pokemon responded immediately sending thunderbolts upwards into the sky.

Well that looks... completely and utterly unintimidating. It's a cloud bird. But that attack was nothing to sneeze at. Whatever this Pokémon was, it was probably flying type.

Which means Eren is hopping off of Adelheide's back, shifting in midair and taking to the skies with a powerful beat of his steely wings.

"Napoleon!"

The warp band around Eren's ankle glows and the giant blue Tyrantrum appears in a burst of light. He eyes the birds in the sky, then stomps his foot on the ground. The earth shatters around his feet and giant stones rise into the air to protect the would-be victims from attack from above.

Eren, meanwhile, has gotten very agile from training, day in and day out. "Have I got a surprise for you, cloudy!"

The skarmory opens his beak and unleashes a blast of Icy Wind at the cloudbird, a nifty trick he picked up while training.

Talonflame is intercepted before it can get very far by two Pidgeot that slam into it with Wing Attacks. Altaria seems to take the Thunderbolts in good stride as it responds by... opening its mouth and beginning to sing? Evidently, Thunder isn't terribly effective against it.

As Eren unleashes the Icy Wind, another duo of Swellow dive in front of the attack to protect the cloud-bird.

That's a lot of birds all of a sudden. Talonflame screeches as the Wing Attacks strike, almost sending it plummeting towards the ground. It flaps its wings furiously to regain its balance, embers flickering between its feathers with the beginnings of a Flame Charge, but it maintains its distance for now.

Jade, meanwhile, is beginning to realize that the cute and fluffy cloud bird is probably more dangerous than it seems. With how aggressive the other birds are in protecting it, perhaps it's a leader of some sort?

Or maybe their bonds of friendship are just strong, but like Jade would understand that.

"Careful, Eren." Jade calls out as he fiddles with his Warp Band. Eren is a relatively new Ranger; it's part of Jade's responsibilities to be looking after him. It's been awhile since they've worked together, but he remembers Eren's hatred of dangerous Pokemon, and is worried he's planning on taking unnecessary risks.

There's a flash of light as Jade's own blue Tyrantrum appears. She roars, snapping at the air as she sets up a Stealth Rock.

The mystery as to why these birds are frantically protecting the dragon is solved as a strange lethargy begins to fall over Ky, Jade, Eren, and all of their Pokemon. It's singing a Perish Song... They'll be down within five minutes if they don't stop it, at which point the other raiders can freely pick from their unconscious forms.

Stealth Rock will successfully float through the air to form obstacles for the dueling birds up in the sky, but the Altaria continues to sing.

Eren has plenty of ice to spare. When he starts to feel drowsy, he shakes it off, faltering a bit midair. He shoves his way through the Swellows with sheer force, slicing at them with his bladed wings as he goes, and lands on the Altaria's back. He digs in with his claws and grabs at its neck with his wide, toothy jaws. He's not going down without taking this thing with him.

Those birds are real annoying to Napoleon. Normally he'd be irritated with another Tyrantrum in his personal space like this, but there are more important things to worry about.

Like pummeling all of them with Ancient Power stones.

He started to stagger, feeling that lethargy seep into his bones. "Someone stop..." Ky shook his head, looking at his two pokemon and the men. "We better not let it finish! Cherubim, keep the others away from Jeager! Isaac -"

He's cut off as his flaaffy suddenly started to glow and change shape, staggering as well before letting out an extremely bright burst of light - that revealed an Ampharos once the haze clears up.

"Wha...? Isaac..." Ky turned to the sky, sparks flying off his body as he strikes at the other birds as the gem on Ampharos' forehead glows - before shooting a beam at the Altaria.

Altaria is surprisingly persistent even as Eren lands on its back! It's hard to get a grip through all the fluff, but even as he tries to bite down, a Staraptor will smash straight into him with Close Combat.

It's enough for Altaria to have stopped singing for a moment, though, which buys them some time. In the meantime, Altaria isn't weak to Electricity, but Skarmory sure are. The Thunderbolt will probably strike both of them given that they're on top of each other.
