Log // Flowers & Bug Spit

Who: Michiru (incousinswithyou) & her Budew, Haruka (actsmagnificent) & her Sewaddle, Hawke (hawkethat) & his beard, possibly others. It is happening in a public place, after all. Feel free to have witnessed this.
What: Hawke promised to tolerate having leaves and flowers stuck to his face and hair with bug spit. I mean MAKE-OVERS. Because Michiru's Budew is too adorable okay.
Where: The park
When: Gently backdated to sometime last-weekish.
Warnings: None, unless you're afraid of bugs.

[Here is Hawke, chilling in the park with his two puppy pals and waiting for his new bestie Michiru to show up with her Budew so he can indulge the tiny little grass pokemon with its desire to make people over. The Houndour and the Lillipup are frolicking together in the sun while Hawke looks on, seated on the ground with his back against the trunk of a shady tree.]

[ Oh, dear, has he been oversilking? Sewaddle will have to be careful. For now, he climbs down to fiddle with the flowers and do a bit of damage control. Okay...there. ] Wad.

Nothing says "support civilization" like wearing outdated clothes and saying somebody else's dialogue. [ ...That was probably a bit too cynical. Haruka adjusts how she's seated on the grass, and now her smile seems a bit more sincere. ] Too bad you didn't get lost sooner. You missed our last show.

Also, wow, somebody's sarcastic, over there.]

That is too bad. When's your next one?

[and Budew's back, placing flowers on the ground in a circular pattern. But wait...she hops onto Hawke's knee, trying to get closer and ascertain how big his head is.] Buuu?

[she leans in a little, nudging Haruka with a shoulder.]

We're having a bit of a break. Goodness knows the crew needs to recover from the stress.

Sewa. [ Sewaddle gestures. Hawke's head is thiiiiiiis big, Budew! Does that help?

...Okay, yeah, between Michiru teasing her and the partners in crime, it's hard to be self-effacingly sardonic no matter how silly Haruka finds her day job. ] It works out. Your new look's courtesy of the costume department.

[ It'd be good for Sewaddle to feel like he is part of something bigger, and he did do a nice job on his cape for the Pokémon play. Maybe...if Setsuna's okay with it....she'll see if the other woman wants a small, overeager apprentice. ]

[Here, Budew, Hawke will lift you up so that you can get a better view. And possibly also make it easier to confer with partner-in-crime Sewaddle.]

The costume department is a Budew and a Sewaddle?

[That's not a serious question, by the way. Or at least, it's mostly not serious. Also, he's starting to get the feeling he's missing out on an inside joke.]

[whoaaa. Hey, your head is like a Budew-width in circumference. Did you know that, beard human?]

Only when we're doing forest scenes.

[ That's a good unit of measurement. Sewaddle will have to remember that for later. Shall we flower crown? ] Sewa?

[ Also, Hawke, it's nothing personal. Every conversation involving Haruka, Michiru, and a third party is a long string of missed inside jokes. Even if they haven't used the jokes before. She winks. ] We're professionals.

[He grins at Lulu] I know now. Thanks. [And now that the size of his head is settled, he sets her gently back down by the flowers she gathered.]

Well, now I'm definitely interested. I suppose there are some perks to being stuck here indefinitely.

[Lulu hops back down and starts nudging the flowers into an appropriately sized circle. With her lack of dexterity, she'll be depending on Sewaddle to bring it all together.]

The theater does have its draw. [like a particular set of ardent fangirls. Not sure if you'd fit into that, however.]

[ Haruka...can't exactly see this guy enjoying their standard fare, no. But who knows? They've only just met, and she supposes the plays are fun in an escapist sort of way. ] What else have you seen of Union?

[ Sewaddle's got you covered, Lulu! With plenty of silk and an excellent work ethic. He scoots his way around the circle, silking things together, adding leaves where necessary to fluff up the crown and really give it some body. You picked such nice flowers! This is going to look great! ] Se. Wa. Se. Wa.

[ This is your future they're building, Hawke. Look upon it and despair. ]

[Hawke is, at this point, a hick farmboy experiencing the big city for the first time. He's game to try anything once!]

I've spent most of my time in the Business District just kind of wandering around and picking up odd jobs.

[And camping in the forest at night because this enormous city is too overwhelming to spend every minute in it.

Also, he's watching that future they're building. It doesn't look so bad to him!]

[eyes bright, Lulu happily follows Sewaddle around the ring. Whoa, you're making it look so pretty!]

We don't have much in the way of tourist attractions, so you'll have to forgive us for that.

[hah. Well, with the way people keep popping up from outside of Union, however...]

[ Isn't he just? But this little flower, Lulu - this is for you. It is sweet, and cute, and tiny. Just like his friend. He silks it up and sticks it just above her eye. ] Sewaddle.

I hope it stacks up compared to home.

[ All these settlements outside of Union, yeah....all these people whose cultures might have something about the Gods' return. Haruka may be on her downtime, but she's still a member of the Divine Defense Force. The mission never sleeps. ]

This is the part where I have to admit that the business district by itself is more exciting and better populated than my entire village, isn't it?

[It's at this point the two disappeared dog pokemon make their triumphant return to see what's happening over here. The Lillipup's first order of business is to walk around on everyone's lap, starting with Michiru, while the Houndour approaches the two busy makeover artists to see what they're up to with the flowers and bug silk.]

I haven't had a boring day since getting here.

Buu dewbu! [uwah! Thanks, Sewaddle! Aw, this is such an awesome day!

Michiru smiles, first at Hawke, and then at the Lillipup making the rounds. Good thing you're still small, huh?]

Sounds cozy. [no wonder you've had trouble finding people who've heard of it] If rather desolate.

[using a euphemism doesn't count if you follow it up with that, Michiru]

[ Lillipup may find its progress halted by the fact that Haruka wants to scratch it behind the ears. You're a cute dog. And you walked on Michiru, that's funny. ] Don't be like that. There's lots to be said for small-town life.

[ What, she's not entirely certain, having never....experienced it....but she reads! Speculative fiction! That sometimes features this fabled "small-town life"!

Sewaddle is a bit startled by Houndour - such teeth, very doge - but warms up almost immediately once he sees that nose is just sniffing out of curiosity. Do you want to help? Or do you want one, too? ] Sewa wa sewa waddle?

[Oh, ear scratches! Lillipup is totally okay with pausing her lap-walking to accept those.]

I think desolate is a bit dramatic. Dull might be more accurate.

[Sergeant's curiosity is piqued! What is Sewaddle doing? How can a Houndour help? Can he help? His short tail wags furiously at the thought of something new and exciting to learn!

Hawke, meanwhile glances over at Haruka with some interest.]

[Whee! So many new friends! Lulu totally bets that between the three of them, Hawke might become the most stunning human in the city.

Michiru, on the other hand, laughs quietly and glances at Haruka. Yes, like what...?]

[ Put her on the spot, why don't you. Even if she did that to herself. There's a pause, and then Haruka shrugs, looking Hawke's direction. ] You'd know better than me.

[ The ear scratches resume. One can never say Haruka Tenoh isn't smooth.

Sewaddle, however, is so excited he can barely stand still. Let's see here. Um. How can a Houndour help...oh, he knows! What if Sergeant went and got a few more leaves, since they're almost done, and then once it's finished, Sergeant puts it on his Trainer's head? Budew and Sewaddle don't have that kind of reach! ] Sewa wa sewaddle!

[ Leader of the future, right here. ]

But now you've piqued my curiosity.

[You can't smooth your way out of this that easily, Haruka. Humor the man!

Oh! Yes! Sergeant can definitely find some more leaves! He barks once and does a little hop in place, before turning and running off to find some leaves!]

Don't set anything on fire!

[When the little Houndour gets too excited he has a tendency to produce Embers as he pants. Hopefully this won't end in premature burning.]

[she'll smile...and then glance at Hawke from under her lashes.]

There's you, for one thing.

[ .....hey, wait. This is a friend, right, Michiru? A friend. Hah, that's a good joke. There's no way this guy - heck, this guy is decent!

Yes, Michiru is very funny. Ha ha. You'll pardon Haruka if she doesn't laugh. ] Not anymore.

[ Now she really has to think of something in small towns. Um. Or, you know what, she'll check on the dog. Haruka stands. ] I'll keep an eye on him for you. Be right back.

[ The word "fire" has given Sewaddle pause, too. Does his new friend....ignite things when he's happy? Will he, in an attempt to show his happiness, set the flower crown on fire?

Will he set Sewaddle on fire? Even as a gesture of friendship, that might be a bit intense.... He wobbles, faltering in his work. ] Sewa...

[Whaaaaaaat just happened here.

Uh. Well. See you when you get back, Haruka...?]

Careful. If you keep talking like that, you'll make me blush.

[...BNR. Hawke has no shame, therefore is not capable of blushing.

Oh no, Sewaddle...! Hawke reaches out what he hopes is a reassuring hand.]

He won't set you on fire, little guy. Or the flower crown, or the leaves, or the park.

[He hopes...]

[and Budew leans up against Sewaddle's other side in solidarity. Don't worry!! She knows Water Sport, and her Trainer is part Water type so they can hide behind Michiru if needed.

Hah.] I wouldn't mind seeing that.

[she turns an amused look towards the Pokemon. No, but really.] So much for helping Haruka out.

[all good deeds come with a price?]

[ Haruka's okay! Really, she's okay. And she likes Hawke - he's a good guy, she can feel it. The Rangers sound like a perfect fit for him and she sincerely hopes he hears word of his village and can make it home. She's also not so insecure as to believe Michiru might have been serious.

But clearing her head can't hurt. What kind of awful partner would it make her if she suspected every person who approached Michiru but her? That would just be stupid, and unfair...

This is a pretty nicely-shaped twig with some pretty vibrantly green leaves still on it. Haruka picks it up and looks around to see where Houndour's gotten to. ] I don't suppose you chase the stick.

[ Sewaddle feels much better from all this support. It's hard, but he manages to give each of his friends a hand to hold as he smiles, reassured. Today is just so nice! And if he can be friends with Sergeant, it'll be even nicer! ] Sewaddle!
