Feliks had never been really good at making friends. The nobles found him undignified and defiant, everyone else thought he was flighty and useless and had a screw or two loose, and he had a habit of getting flustered and putting his foot in his mouth at the worst of times. For the longest time, he only had Jadwiga, who was just a Ralts at the time. He'd thought he was maybe getting a little better, but...
But recently, he just wasn't so sure.
Lenna seemed to have forgiven him for the way he acted when she tried to help him, but the memory of his fight with Yuuna was fresh -- his stomach still sank at the thought of it, at the dull echo of the word dead in his head, at the memories it had sparked of the red-winged god, merciless and terrible. The thought that Death could have taken them, could have taken Fai -- it wasn't bearable. He couldn't let himself think it, or he didn't know how he'd get up in the mornings.
Maybe he was just never cut out for having friends. He'd never needed them before, right? Jadwiga understood him, and his other Pokemon loved him, too, and wasn't that enough?
But when he saw Pamela at his door, he put his smile on like usual.
"Hey, gorgeous! Ok, hang on just a sec..."
He had a few with him -- he usually did -- and it took a moment to pick up the Eevee and the Togepi and convince Huzar that she was too big to be carried anymore. He slipped into his shoes, and tossed a bag over his shoulder, and gave her another smile for good measure. "Lead the way!"
