Third Dive | Video/Action

[It was the weekend, and Rei had slept in his own bed on a Friday night for the first time in weeks. Although he was taking his recent dealings with Pokemon quite seriously, he also had obligations to fulfill on a mundane level. He had promised his parents and teachers that he would keep his grades up to their usual standards in spite of all of this, and he had a major test to study for on Monday...

Between the many, many books that were scattered about the bed, a couple of extremely cuddly Pokemon who were curled up next to him, and a few changes that had taken place while he was passed out...

Of course there was going to be a consequence.

First there was a creaking and groaning of the wooden frame when a certain young man shifted under the sheets. It was followed by a loud snap, then a the tumult of wood clattering against wood and a loud crash as the bed, on it's final legs, broke beneath the weight of something that was far heavier than it looked.

In the midst of the flailing limbs, tangled hair, and a few very confused Pokemon, the Warp Band clicked on.]

What in the--

[Rei cut himself off at the sound of his voice and weight of the silvery hair that fell across his face and over his shoulders. Something wasn't--

It took him barely a moment to register what had happened.]

Eeeehhh?? What is this?!

[There's a shuffle off screen, and the sound of someone calling his name in concerned inquiry. Rei dove for the Warp Band, panic gleaming in his eyes.]

What do I do? I can't let my parents find me like this!

[Then the feed cut out abruptly-- not without more confused yelling.]

[ That is certainly an interesting voice to wake to. His first thought, after moving the book from his head and blinking blearily, is that he'd woken himself with sleep talk, but his voice was coming from his wrist, not his chest, and that would be a feat, wouldn't it.

The second thing he noticed was that nothing was in focus. He doesn't have time to think harder on that for a moment, because his voice is getting a little frantic sounding, and he really should talk to Myorzo about the kinds of dreams she pokes him into having, because this is a very odd one-

Well, that sure is him, somewhere else, with a broken bed, and rather panicked. ]

Calm down, would be a good first step. Where- [ And then the feed cuts off with more yelling.

Well. Okay. Where the person who looks like him is clearly isn't going to help anymore.

There's an annoyed sigh. And now Duke has to figure out who he is, because he sounds different, and everything is blurry and

that was a shoulder seam.]

[Rei barely registered the sound of his own voice coming from the Warp Band before Shiro, who was only a few scant weeks old, decided to take initiative and give them a quick escape.

--That was the source of the yelling, since when did Shiro learn Teleport?

...The little Pokemon's shrug and confused grumble made more sense than it should have.

So many things were confusing, like his voice, and his hair, and the fact that he could see as well as he could without his prescription lenses to aid him. It took a few moments of fiddling with the Warp Band to locate that lone transmission he had received in his panic. It had been his voice, and that was a good enough place to start.]

--I'm sorry, [Rei said, flushing deeply once again at the sound of the voice coming out of him.] Shiro-kun surprised us.

[He pulled his legs up beneath him and pushed his hair out of the way. Barefoot and dressed in charcoal colored pajamas that were patterned in butterflies, with sleeves that were now too short, Rei found himself hoping that this other person, whomever they were, had some answers.]

[ Wow, whoever it is in his body is easily flustered. Because while there's been no reply Duke has poked around and found a reflective surface and managed to squint into it to realize that he isn't him. Like the short hair and Laulyse's silence didn't hint that.

His voice isn't that weird, person he is assuming is a kid. ]

Not surprising. This is a surprise as it is. [ There's a short hand movement for "this". It should be pretty clear.

That is definitely a sign of a need to swap clothing. ]

Do you know where you are? I can either bring something or we could simply swap. [ And here he squints at the video some more. ]

... unless we didn't simply swap.

No. I think we swapped, [Rei said, allowing himself to calm down now that he was looking at his own face. The other person seemed to be handling this with far more aplomb-- that was reason enough for Rei to reign himself in.]

And I'm still in the city, fortunately, but it will be too embarrassing to go back home for some clothes. My parents...

[That was not a conversation he looked forward to having.]

[ Looking at your own face through anything but a mirror shouldn't be reassuring. Its just that Duke is too tired to react much with much more than curiosity. ]

.... You're that young, then.

[ There's a worried floette on his shoulder with a lily, looking between Duke and the Duke-on-the-Screen.

Which reminds him. ]

... Duke. Is what you ought to answer to while you look like... me. And you... ought to be...? [ Thinking hard on this is going to give him a headache. More of a headache than trying to see things. ]

Rei. Rei Ryugazaki, [He added on his surname, remembering that there were others with names similar to his own in the city.] And I'm fifteen. I haven't graduated from school yet.

[He looked away from the screen, feeling a little embarrassed about admitting that to someone who was plainly an adult by their manner of speech.]

...You're going to need glasses, Duke-san. [Rei said after a moment's thought.] It will be hard for me to go back and get them, but I know someone who can help. Can you meet me at the Habitat?

... Oh. [ Just. Let him put his .. borrowed? face into borrowed hands and think for a moment. What was normal at 15? ] If you're fifteen...

... Are there any.. friends I should manage to avoid speaking too? [ Do you have a girlfriend?.. or a boyfriend, he thinks he knows someone with one of those.

Isn't that what union kids have at that age? ]

... Any particular level or just at the front doors.

The only ones who might bother you might just want help with their school work. I tutor a lot of my classmates.

[Friends? Romance? What are those? He has more important things to worry about, like his grades and his Pokemon.]

We can just meet at the front doors. You might get tackled if we go further in on our own.

[And he meant that as literally as you can imagine.]

[ Okay sure, getting tackled doesn't sound like you don't have close frie-

Pokemon, clearly. Duh, Duke, duh. ~~Although those are friends in his mind so.~~ ]

Will be there.

[ And sitting, tiredly, on the steps will be Duke - or Rei, as he is told this body's name is. He's rubbing his face a little, because walking to his house from the lab then back here was not fun on these blurry eyes, but he's got a backpack that looks like it has something in it, a Floette trying to help him rub his face, and a Drifblim playing with the short hair. ]

[Turned around as he was by the surprise Teleport, it takes Rei a little while to find his way to the Habitat-- but, he does arrive. Barefoot and in pajamas that were too small, with his astoundingly long hair in a disarray from the chaos of that morning, he makes for quite the picture upon his arrival.]

Good morning, [He said, stopping a few feet away from...his body. The guilty little Ralts, perched on his shoulder, waved at the familiar face in greeting.]

...It's strange, meeting you like this. I'm sorry I can't be any more help.

[ So that's what he looks like with bed head. And of course, rather blurry.

Duke waves the apology off. ]

I feel like I ought to be the one apologizing for not being of aid. You are half my age or so. [ He lifts the backpack and stands, offering it. ]

A change of clothes. [ The drifblim floats closer out of curiosity, circles Rei, then cheerfully whistles that 'he tastes better' as she floats back to Duke and his borrowed short hair. Ghost types-. ]

['Tastes better?'

Rei numbly took the change of clothes, eyes wide and staring at the drifblim floating nearby.]

Thank you. I-- I don't understand what's going on--

[He's young. He's inexperienced. He's not Enlightened. Why are the Pokemon talking?]

[ Duke stares blankly up at... Himself, then up at Myorzo, who giggles. His eyebrows go together for a moment. ]

One thing answered. Sit, it shouldn't be that uncomfortable.

[ He will tug Rei down in a moment, if he doesn't sit on his own. ]

You aren't enlightened, at least in a way I can tell at the moment, but you may have noticed I am. Or ought to have... [ Your bed didn't break because it was just an adult body in it, okay. ]

... Although now that makes me wonder how we ought to go about sleeping arrangements... Yours needs repairs...

No, I'm not enlightened. I've only been a trainer for a couple of months. And I did notice about you too--I'd never heard Shiro-kun calling me 'big brother' before today.

[He did sit down next to...his own body. It was strange, seeing himself like this.]

We don't need to worry about sleeping arrangements too much either. My parents are getting used to me going out over the weekends instead of studying in my spare hours. I've already left the city for a week once as well. Maybe if I can get them a note, we can frame it as something like that?

And also steel and psychic types. Although your bed already showed that first. [ More tired rubbing at his face. ]

I could attempt to walk you through what.... is possible, or it could be ignored in the hopes that it doesn't last long enough that you need to know.

[ Ah, good, an easy excuse. He absently wonders 'what about school' but trainers do that sort of thing all the time. ]

Handwriting, shouldn't be that much of an issue. The broken bed could be more of one but... [ He shrugs. If this isn't localized, it could reach Rei's parents that odd stuff is happening and explanation found.

Besides, lying is uncomfortable. ]

Of more interest is clear vision, at the moment.

[Rei nodded, understanding exactly what was meant.]

You need some too, you know. I mean-- this body needs some. It's not bad but...I feel like I've seen you in the Library once or twice. Don't you get tired?

[Referring to eyestrain, and glasses. Rei pulled his hair back with his hands, idly wondering if he could find a way to tie it in place...]

I have a friend inside who can help us. He...is something of a collector, and I don't know where he finds everything. It's better not to ask, though. I might incriminate myself if I knew more.

[ Tired of reading and research and books? Never. ]

When I'm tired, I sleep. [ ... Often right where he was.

This causes his Floette to start scolding - 'you stay up for days reading then wake up and grouch about a headache' and other related things about his terrible study habits.

Duke stares blankly at her, then there's a tiny twitch of pained smile - he knows this is a scold, from plenty of experience, but can't hear a word of it.

He can't tell if Rei is touching.... his hair because he enjoys the feel of it (which is an odd thought, but Myorzo and Laulyse enjoyed settling in his hair), or because its a bother. ]

... Shall we then?

[He was uncomfortable with the weight of it, and was wondering how he could restrain it without doing it any damage. While it was a bother for him, a trained runner, it was also something that was immensely pretty. He didn't want to damage it.

...although he was starting to wonder if Duke would even notice if he did anything like that, if he was so singularly focused.]

...Yes, we shall. [Rei nodded, and the Ralts secured himself on Rei's shoulder when he started to move. His coordination was still off, but that was something he attributed to the extra height and added mass that was invisible to all but medical professionals.

He hasn't been able to factor any of it into his calculations yet, but he planned to. He wanted very much to live up to the beauty of this body he was in.]

[ Braiding it, ponytailing it, those would just get absent "oh hey, he changed how he wore ... my hair". Cutting it would get a double take and unhappiness - will he have to regrow his hair, and deal with itchy neck?

Single-minded. That's a good way to put it, as lost in thought he is that he doesn't notice his Floette settling behind one ear and drifloon keeping pace.

Duke turns and walks with Rei to the doors, where he pauses, and steps behind him. ]

Would I still be in danger of being tackled if you are seen first?

That depends....they all like my hair, but I think Hanai and Yuri went ahead to warn the rest of them.

[He pushed open the doors, continuing in a thoughtful tone.]

Just in case the message didn't get through...can you swim? Most of them are Water Types.

... I can avoid swallowing too much water, but as you have noticed, was not suited to swimming until... recently.

[ Sinks like a rock. Or more correctly, a lump of steel. With Rei's body? He ought to be better.

His drifblim cheerfully whistles that it could pick him out of the water, if he manages to float. ]

[So could the pokemon who was the most guilty of tackle-greetings, Rei thought as he lead them to the water type habitats, but that never seemed to factor into play whenever he went to greet anyone.]

...I see. I'm not a good swimmer, either. [He had the theories down reasonably well...but, once he got into the water, he sank with all of the grace of a cardboard doll.

It was embarrassing.]

We'll just need to hope that the message got through and everyone's been warned. We don't want anyone drowning today

[ Floats for a little then sinks? Is that a cardboard thing to do... ]

... Do best to avoid being near the water, but if that's the habitat we are heading into... Although even if unfamiliar, I am fairly sure I can avoid that.

[ Laulyse studies the both of them, and announces she'll be right back. Duke blinks after her when she floats off, then shrugs. Maybe she didn't want to be potentially squished?

... here's hoping he doesn't get knocked over. . . ]

[He can float okay enough, but the moment he starts to move it's as if the water rejects his very existance. Instead of keeping him bouyant and allowing him to cut his way through the surface with his movements, it sends him sinking to the bottom...

At least there would be no funerals, if they were careful.

Rei studied the little pokemon, confusion clear on his face for a second, before he heard a distinct flapping sound. He looked over, beyond Duke...

A Mantyke flew in at top speed, a very unhappy look in his eyes. The others were right, why did they have to be?!

Duke, how quick are you at avoiding partial flying types?]

[ Try salt water. ~~on second thought, don't-~~

He would be quicker, but it was probably a combination of a few things. Having gotten woken up from his crash-sleep earlier than he would on his own, the unfamiliar body, just being shorter and not having the typing he's used to.

Duke turns half way and starts taking a step out of the way before the mantyke hits him.

His Drifblim just sniggers as it happens. Some help she is... ]
