Pokédex 002 [action, open]
It is that time again! Red is out exploring the Deep Canyon this time, and has a friend today in Blue, his childhood buddy. Hearing about his fun on the Tropical Island, she has went with him to make sure he doesn't get himself killed and train up her team with some Intensive Training while Red is searching for Pokemon to bond with.
Likely he'll be coming with her to the locale all week to help raise up her party and catch up.
For today, though. He is content to search along the rocks with Abby while Zarya stays back a bit to watch Blue while she is tutoring Nike with 'something you'll definitely like' according to her.
"What do you think, Abby?" The Charmander doesn't attempt answering, instead scanning the rocks for friends and trouble.
"Yeah...Me too." The Island had definitely shaken both of them up, but that's all the more reason to try harder and get stronger.

But she knew that going with it would be beyond being challenging and daring, it would be plain dumb.
What Red ended getting up to on the island had her speechless and amazed ("Naked? How. Why."); the who he ended up bringing back nearly had her wanting to throttle him (affectionately maybe) in jealousy for how wonderful and lovely and cute and adorable and strong and majestic she was.
There was no way Red was going to go travelling off again without her. She hadn't ever travelled much out to the canyon, and definitely not deep within it, getting easily lost in what there was to see in learn within the forest and the areas it led to. Slowly learning from the pokémon there and learning more about her own at the same time. And while she had faith in the abilities of her pokémon, they weren't the best equipped to deal with the ground-types that were known to be out there.
Unlike Indigo, her newly befriended squirtle, bold and daring and not afraid of a few tough knocks. She was soon up again after any unsavoury meetings (and with help from Blue), and she was shaping up well. Zarya might have a few levels on her (okay, more than a few), but that didn't stop Indigo from trying to show off at times in front of the other water-type whenever she could.
Blue looks up from Nike perched on her arm, watching Red and Abby with some interest. The both of them had been wearing those intense looks ever since they'd left.
"Are you worried?" she attempts to guess, pushing some hair behind her ear. "I can call Dahlia out. She can help keep guard."
no subject
While Red will trust Blue with his life, after the island, he isn't as ready for her to trust him again yet. This being why Zarya was carefully stacking pebbles near the small spot they mutually elected as the resting area for the day while Red looked around. So far they hadn't had trouble, but they also hadn't seen fully-evolved Pokemon, either.
"I mean, you can. If you want." As he spoke a hand slipped into his bag and he produced one of his toy balls, gripping it tightly, which meant he was upset and nervous. This might have been one of a handful of times he's dared to take any of them out of his house as Blue should be well-aware of by now. Zarya made a happy noise as she has made a nice stack of brown pebbles and waves to Indigo to look. While she had several levels on the Squirtle, the Totodile was inexperienced. Startlingly strong when directed by Red, but still inexperienced. Nike for her part huffed at Red's lie before opting to puff herself up, considering the lesson done for the moment.
Abby meanwhile had stepped just out of sight, working hard on practicing his ember. It might not do well against Ground types, but Red has put his faith in the Charmander and he is determined for that faith to never be misplaced. "How is your ankle, by the way?" Red asks, looking abruptly. Having just realized he didn't ask about it, he feels pretty sheepish. Almost as much as when he had to relate his adventures to Blue in the first place.
no subject
Blue holds out her arm, to allow Nike to move off if he wants. But whether he goes or stay, Blue picks herself up from where she sits and joins Red on a spot right beside him. At the question of her ankle, she stretches out the foot in question, wriggling it around for show.
"All better! Like I never fell over." She flashes him a smile, laughing lightly, that softens when she bumps his shoulder afterwards. An affectionate motion she usually does, particularly when she either wanted to Talk or Be There (or both).
"Tell me what's on your mind?"
no subject
Opting to remain on Blue's arm, Nike puffs up, tucking her head under a wing as she moves to sit by Red, which surprises him a bit, but he hardly minds the company.
Smiling as she shows off her healed ankle, he nods, rocking with the bump and looking distant until her question. "My mind?" He doesn't answer right away as he feels a nudge from his other side, and looks to see Abby tugging at his shirt lightly. Smiling, Red removes his hat and sets it upon the Charmander's head, who then runs to join Indigo and Zarya with their stacking.
"I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. The island was a whole other world and it's way ahead of the forest, Blue. I'm glad you couldn't go." He looks up at the sliver of sky above them. "I don't care much about me, but I didn't want anything happening to people I care about. Or Pokemon."
no subject
Meanwhile, Blue listens to Red as he speaks, quietly, resting the arm with the bird on it on her leg so as to keep it still for the bird to stay. She waits until he's done before she talks, starting slowly: "The forest was a different world for us too once upon a time. We got hurt, we made mistakes - the kind we wouldn't do in there today. You've grown--we both have, a little."
She pauses, going from his upward face and to where the pokémon play with the rocks, Indigo happy to play the big boss despite being the newest of the team.
"...but a little is only a little," she admits. "It's nothing compared to all the other trainers. We still have a long way for it to go for it to mean anything. And maybe it was lucky I couldn't go that day."
As depressing as it is to say that. "But it won't always stay that way. I don't like that you got in trouble, but you got some good out of it too. You got Zarya-" a nod to the pokémon "-and you got a... reality check, maybe. Or this feeling that you need to do more."
no subject
He was listening as Blue spoke though, and nods. "It's true. Maybe if I hadn't retired Judy, but then again I might not have made as many new friends so soon." He looks over to the Pokemon as well finally, seeing both her and Abby being directed by the Squirtle.
He looks at Blue seriously now, a hint of that fire from when he was still in school and the need to be trainer burning again. "We have to work hard then. Both of us, because I've been reminded how serious things are." Just like finding his father. Which meant he'd have to be a lot stronger than he was now.
"I've been thinking about the Rangers." It was a bit off-topic, and yet not at the same time. Being a Ranger could help in several ways. His tone says he isn't sure yet though; a common problem he's had for a while since that would essentially set his track.
no subject
Again she listens quietly, waiting for him to finish. It was good to hear - and see - that his thoughts and experience on the tropical island wasn't going to completely dismay him from the trainer dream. All people get a little down, don't they? And there was no reason for Red not to get back up: he had gotten lucky in a lot of ways. Though, being out here together with him and knowing how he was, Blue already knew that he wouldn't be that quick to quit.
The topic of the Rangers isn't entirely far out there - at least it doesn't feel like it to Blue, anyway. "What's stopping you?"
A carefully picked question, to help him think as well.
no subject
"Well..." He begins, reaching up for his hat, only to remember he gave it to Abby. A tiny blush forms, and he lets his hand drop. "I guess. What's stopping me, is me." He couldn't even cite worry for his mother, the Rangers would pay him quite well after all.
Looking over, he gives her a very light push on her shoulder. "Thanks." He really needed to talk with someone about whatever his destiny was going to be, and everyone else seemed preoccupied with fulfilling their own.
no subject
But she giggles, seeing that resolution (she hopes) come from such a simple exchange. She touches her head against his shoulder for a second and then sits back properly up.
"Thank me by going through with it." There's a second, and then she decides to wrap an arm over her shoulders, once more resting her head against him in a small hug.
"Good luck, you."
no subject
Taking a long moment to think about it again, he's caught off guard by the movement and the embrace, and is sitting there confused for several seconds before finally reaching up and gripping her arm to return the hug.
"I will." He smiles and nudges a rock with his toe. After having her put things in perspective it seems so simple now.
no subject
"We'll have to make sure our pokémon keep good and trained. Then one day, we can take a visit to that island together." And, with her eyes still on the pokémon, playfully: "But no nude frolicking from Red this time, right Nike?"
no subject
Finally though, Red scoffs. "But the nude frolicking was the best part." This is said dryly and wakes up Nike, who chortles, shaking a bit with laughter. It was pretty good and worth trying again when Red is spaced out. That may be the best reason to not zone out in the midst of changing.
no subject
The finger turns to Nike. "I'm warning you too."
no subject
And then his attention turns to Nike. As fun as it would be to lay down a challenge about it, he really didn't want to have to chase another Pokémon for his clothes again, and turns to point at the Pidgey as well. "Better listen to her. She's scary when she's mad."
no subject
"I do get scary. I have to because I know boys like your trainer."
But she's smiling despite the her words, all and all playfully said. She holds out her bird arm in front of Red.
"Here. You're a good match, you two."
no subject
"I think so, too." Said confidently, the Pidgey puffs up a bit at his words, looking a bit more regal and proud. Red meanwhile leans against Blue.
" Only problem, now is I'm gonna have to figure out some more friends to make. It'll be exciting to see who I find here, but I need to get ahold of more Pokemon so I can be a good Ranger."
no subject
"Welll... Rangers need to be able to go far and wide and under any conditions, so you'll need to think about pokémon good for travel. I've been thinking about it a lot lately... I talked about it with a boy a while ago, so it's been on my mind even more."
no subject
"Good for travel. Abby should do when he evolves. Nike as well. I need something that can swim though." He looks over to the trio of Pokemon still playing with the stones. "If Zarya really is in the same evolution family to those Pokemon that attacked me...she can definitely swim. Maybe I need a Fighting type."
no subject
"Fighting type would be good." Clasping her hands together and rubbing her thumbs in thought, she looks upward. "There's mankey in the mountains - those are fighting type. They've got wild temperaments, but bonding with one could be make for good experience."
She pauses, but briefly. "A rock type would be useful as well. I was thinking before that a pokémon with a lot of strength would work well when you have hard rubble in the way, and rock types have always looked like a solution for an issue like that.
"And a grass type will be good too! A lot of them can generate powders in their bodies, so if you ever get in a pickle you can't run away from, putting it to sleep or paralysing it might just be the answer."
no subject
She can always poke it off his nose back in his room. Until then, Red smiles, finally tucking the ball back into his bag. Red nods at the mention of a Mankey. "True. I admit I haven't had a lot of hassle with the actual bonding of a Pokémon." This meaning he wasn't counting all the trouble getting Zarya as part of the problem.
"I may have to look into it an see. Since we're here though, maybe we can find a Rock type to see how that goes. Most Rock types do seem solidly built." Yes, they were in a very good spot, now all he needed was to find just the right kind to suit him. He isn't sure how that will go, but since he is here to bond anyway, might as well focus. When she mentions a Grass type, he mentally sighs. All the Grass Pokémon he's passed on in the Verdant Forest. Perhaps she is right though, and he should turn his focus on usefulness.
"I really will need to get one, won't I?" It is unexpected for him, but when she breaks down it's strengths for him, it makes sense, and he smiles. "Man. I've missed chatting in depth with someone. It's really nice."
no subject
oh dngit i missed mistakes up there))"I'm always around, you know. We can chat any time - and these make it easy."
She lifts the wrist with the warp band over it in indication, then lowers it back down. They could be out in separate locations and be chatting between their adventuring. She wouldn't mind that, herself.
"I think we should expect a fuss with some bonds... some people and pokémon won't have a connection no matter what anyway, but..." she thinks, going over the words in her head. "Sometimes, I think the potential can be there, even if first meetings or impressions don't go over so well. Some days, we'll have to show that we believe we can give them something, and that we don't give up so easily."
The words said, Blue laughs a little at them and at herself. "But we shouldn't go out looking for the most unruly pokémon just to prove something." She looks to Red, smiling. "We should team up with pokémon that want to come with us too. Thinking about uses and type advantages is handy, but even the most small and common of pokémon have as much potential in my book."
no subject
"I don't have to worry about you being too far away with this. I...forgot." Which shouldn't be a surprise. Sometimes he got so caught up in what he was doing that he forgot the simple things. Red's focus improves though as she goes over some of the trials they might face with bonding, and yes he does expect more like the island, but at least it won't be as bad now that he's got some experience under his belt, and his Pokémon definitely do.
"I agree. A challenge sometimes though, that's nice. It pushes you." He really needed that push since he was just a human. He leans against Blue again after a moment. "Don't change, huh? I need something steady in my life." Well, besides his mother. He couldn't stay home forever though, and while he doesn't know where the Rangers will take him, he'll definitely be handling a lot of changes.
no subject
"You'll be fine."
no subject
"Anyway, let's not play too much, we're here for you to train some too, and me as well!" Zarya and Abby look over at Red's words, and Abby seems ready enough, but Zarya sniffles a bit and continues stacking.
no subject
"Okay." Dusting off the sides of her skirt, Blue walks over to where the pokémon are. "Just don't lag behind me too much."
Red,just imagine the cheeky smile Blue's wearing on her face that you can't see. She kneels before Zarya and Indigo, touching the totodile on the side of the face and giving a quick kiss on the top of her head.
"You'll be great," she encourages her in a hushed voice, before turning to her own squirtle and holding out a fist to her.
"Ready?" Indigo blinks, but then responds positively and gives a small fist bump to Blue. Aw yeah.
no subject
After a pause, he reaches for his hat, donning it once more, "You don't mind if I borrow this for a bit do you?" The Charmander shakes his head, and moves to Red's side to wait. Both look over to Zarya, and Red nods when the Totodile looks over after Blue's gentle affections have perked her up. "Let's take a walk, those Ground types won't be a match for you!" Fired up finally it seems, she scrambles over, looking quite happy for once and hefting Abby up as she runs off ahead.
"H-Hey..." Red begins, and shrugs. At least his Pokémon have spirit too.
no subject
Blue giggles as the totodile goes running off. Then, before going to follow them, she fiddled with her warp band to bring Dahlia to the group. She hadn't forgotten about offering to bring her along. When the pokémon appears, she barks, turning to look at Blue and wagging her tail in excitement. Blue pats her on the head, walking up afterwards to Red with her two in tow.
"Okay-" she takes his hand for a moment, squeezing it before letting it go. "Let's try and not lag behind them, too."
She laughs again, and starts to follow the now energetic Zarya, Dahlia and Indigo happy enough to follow (and maybe to take the lead too).
no subject
Nodding to Dahlia when she joins their group, Red looks down at the hand holding his with a moment of confusion, but meets her eyes quickly with a nod. "Alright." The laughter is infectious and he's laughing again as he jogs ahead to catch his Pokémon before they get too far ahead, but that doesn't seem likely with Blue's eager to take the lead. Over the crest of rocks that takes Red a bit to climb over, he spies Abby igniting a dry branch with Ember and holding it up proudly for Zarya, who claps and gives the Charmander a crushing hug before picking him up again and moving further still.
"H-Hey!" Red calls, and sees them joined by the other Pokémon. He sighs and scrambles up and over to the group as Zarya quickly amasses another pile of rocks and is encouraging the group to join in sorting them.
"Well. I guess patience is training, too." He leans against some of the larger rocks, sure Blue has already caught up, probably even gathering still more rocks for them.
no subject
"Are you going to let them keep building?" Blue asks, referring to the rock piling. Indigo at her side doesn't know if to join in - weren't they going on adventure?
no subject
Then he points at them in turn, and then counts his fingers. Looking back at Blue, he opens his mouth, pausing again and then counting her Pokémon apparently.
"Hey, did you ever bond with a shelled Pokémon besides Indigo?" He asks because there is an almost snail-like Pokémon that is giving Zarya rocks carefully to add to the new pile and is also stacking some with it's many short tentacles.
no subject
"Oh!" And seeing that little thing, it has to be one of the cutest new pokémon she's seen. Not one she recognises. She bends down to get a better look at it closer to its own level, though staying where she is, putting a hand onto Indigo's back.
"Isn't it adorable...?" she comments in a hushed voice, glancing back to Red. "Are you going to say hello to them?"
no subject
He waves back and crouches down, "Hi. I'm Red." Nodding it turns back to the Totodile to hand her a few more pebbles and finally slides forward and extends a tentacle up toward him. Pausing and staring at it, he then hooks it with his finger and shakes with it. "Well, you sure are friendly..." Abby comes over, waving at it and pointing at a stick he has lit, and the Pokémon nods, saying something, to which Abby beams, points at Red, and says something in return. The Pokémon finally nudges closer to Red and he looks back to Blue.
"Think I should ask it to come with me?"
no subject
And oh - about that, actually -
"No," she answers simply, eyes still focused on the pokémon. "Then I can ask it instead."
She allows a moment of silence until she looks to Red, giving him a playful smile and nodding her head encouragingly towards the pokémon.
"Go on."
no subject
"Want to come with me?" It looks at Abby first and then Zarya who both nod. Looking down for a moment, it shuffles back as Red extends a hand and pauses a moment before taking it.
"That's the spirit." Shaking, he lets it go and stares at the shell on it's back for a long time.
"...Adenine. I'll call you Adenine." Nodding, it looks at Abby and Zarya again, the later which comes and picks up Adenine, who says something and points, which Zarya immediately starts walking in that direction with Abby following.
"Maybe our adventure has started?"
no subject
And when he's done, Blue picks herself up, giving her legs a kick against the ground for how long she had been crouched for. Indigo makes a sound, then goes following after the hurriedly crew that's already started walking off, not wanting to be left behind. Dahlia at least has some patience - or, at least, enough to wait for Blue.
"Only now?" She adjusts her hat, giving a click of her tongue to Dahlia before moving. "Hmm. Let's see what trouble we'll get into today, then."
no subject
"Maybe it's a treasure." He sounds pretty skeptical, but he doesn't want to ruin their fun since they look excited.
no subject
Blue was sceptical about this being a treasure too, and while she paused along with the group, she was wondering if they should stop to let them do what they wanted or to keep moving on. She and her pokémon could have a look around, at least...
Maybe she'll do that. "How about I have a look around with my two?"
no subject
Soon added to with a broken TM, a cracked Heart Scale, and an empty Lemonade can. He sighs. Yes it might be rare and wonderful for them, as the Pokémon are admiring the shinies, but for Red it's just a headache.
no subject
She returns the same way after a time, having expected at a point for Red and his gang to come following after her or be at least be uncovering an amazing new discovery. Seeing the sight of them with the small collection of what, Blue can't see right away, she calls with a wave.
"Hey! Find anything good?"
And oh, what bad news there will be upon approaching the gang, seeing the results of their labour - that the pokémon are apparently proud of! Well... at least they're proud?
"You guys found a lot. You must've had fun." Said, of course, to the pokémon. And not Red. Poor Red.
no subject
"Maybe we can get him to take us deeper into it. How was your trip?" Red is at least hoping to hear something exciting happened to someone at least.
no subject
At least they were useful once upon a time. Anyway, as for that question...
"It goes quite far up along that way and divides off. It looks interesting." She shifts her bag, laughing a little. "But we can check it out tomorrow. Let's go home."
