[Sally-the-Darumaka has a very unusual fond for touching Maka's warp band. She knows if she touches it, sometimes she'll get to see people on the other side, and she likes seeing people--she's very social for a Pokemon that does socially unacceptable things like touching things that aren't hers...and leaving flaming droppings in places. Even when they're up in the mountains, Sally still pushes and prods Maka into turning on the feed to say hello to the people.

Mostly she wants to say hello, Maka looks somewhat miffed by the insistence of her companion when the feed turns on and is actually in the middle of speaking to her.]

--There's not really a point, Sally, we've got enough to think about with this enviro--[Maka's eyes flick to the screen, expression turning sheepish.] ...Hello, everyone. Sally wanted everyone to know that we're in the mountains right now.

[Sally looks absurdly proud of this fact, Maka just sighs.]

I'm actually missing those hot springs, it's starting to get a little cold. If anybody has the wherewithal to start building one in the city, please do, I'm sure everyone else would be happy about it as well.

[The girl shivers, looking uneasy--the Pokemon looks confused about why or how her companion is getting so cold and clings to her arm to transfer over some warmth.]

Well, it's not all bad up here, I met with a Larvitar and bonded with him. I haven't seen any other Pokemon around, but I'll keep looking for now. We're going up further, so wish us luck! [Daaa!

[Someone on the other side of the screen seems happy to wave to the Darumaka, until Maka's last comment gets his attention.]

Oh - please be careful...! It gets a little more dangerous up at the higher elevations. Even though it's spring now, there are still people who end up with things like frostbite...

It's okay! [She's a tough cookie (okay it's more like she's too stubborn to die) and Sally nods along with this sentiment.] I have Sally here to keep me warm, and Jade's lived here before I met him, he'll know the best route up.

[Her Larvitar just puts his paws on his hips, almost saying "yes, that's me."]

Just don't push yourself! There can be freak ice storms even at this time of year - the ice Pokemon can get a little testy about visitors.

We still get Rangers in the Medical Center sometimes, even.

[She shivers, regardless of the heat of her Pokemon companion.]

I haven't been up here before, I've only just started exploring last month. What kinds of Ice types are there?

Um...

[He doesn't exactly have a comprehensive list handy, but...]

The most dangerous are probably the Froslass. If you get caught in a storm, and you see something off in the distance, don't follow it. They're Ghost types, so they're hard to scare off.

Then there are things like Swinub and Cubchoo - they're not too dangerous, but their parents sometimes are close behind, so you'll want to be careful about approaching them.

Thank you, um...my name's Maka. I'm going to try my best to avoid doing anything that gets me sent to the Medical Center, but it's nice to meet you anyway.

[Lucas fails to pick up on any cues that he should not pursue this line of discussion.]

But, um... It's nice to meet you, Maka. My name is Lucas - I work part-time there.

Ehhh...it's just that they have some weird habit of following me around, and so I get poked and pulled on a lot. It's annoying.

[So they're more like an inconvenience, but admittedly it is quite daunting to say "yeah ghosts just follow me, no big deal."]

Still, it's a pretty important job! I don't have much of a job, really, I help my--[sister]--friend at her family's shrine mostly.

I've never heard of something like that before. ...But ghosts can pull all kinds of strange things out of their hats, so... maybe one of them put some kind of curse on you?

I'm not sure if we have any Ghost experts in the Center, though...

Hmmm...Rei, my friend, is an expect on spiritual stuff. She says that it could be because I'm developing my abilities more and I guess it includes some type of communication with ghosts.

[Even if that communication happens to be schoolyard fare.]

Besides, if I was cursed, it can't be any worse than dealing with my dad, heh.

[She's...she's just kidding, Maka's just not very good at that "trying to pass things off with humor" thing.]

[It might not be the most tactful thing to say to someone who's effectively an orphan, but Lucas doesn't think too much about it.]

Is that Miss Rei with the psychic dreams? I hadn't known she knew about this kind of thing...

Well, I guess they just want to say hello, then! Maybe they'll be more friendly. The one time I went up... I only really saw one from a distance.

Rei Hino, yes. Of course the difference between her and me is that the ghosts run away from her and they come to me. Then again, Rei's very strong and I'm not right now, so it might just be a difference in level.

Ah, if I do meet with one, would it be all right if I brought it by to say hello? Hopefully it wouldn't have to be because it needs medical attention, but the mountains are pretty dangerous so I can't predict what might happen.

A ghost? Well, of course...!

[He's not sure why she would want to bring it around if no one had any injuries, but... he can always introduce her to his own ghost friend.]

I'm at the Medical Center most afternoons, but if you're just looking for a check-up, there are lots of doctors around anytime.
