[Video]

[The video starts with...someone wiping off the screen? Yes, it looks like whatever area is being broadcast from, it's a little steamy. Maka herself looks slightly rumbled and the Espurr around her shoulders has very very puffy fur.]

I forgot to say I'd be exploring this week. I ended up at the hot springs, but I'll be headed back soon hopefully.

[There's more she should be saying, like sorry for just leaving without notice, but it's normal isn't it? You can't explore the world outside if you're going to be hung up on manners, right?]

[A pitiful mewing noise comes from the bundle of fur and Maka reaches up to pet it.]

It's all right, Stella, we'll get back home.

[A pause. Maka looks clearly unsure of what to say next. She doesn't do broadcasts like this often, and there are some people out there she doesn't actually know.]

Well. Thank you for your time.

[So it just ends with an awkward shut off, of course.]

I wouldn't mind, I've never been hiking before.

[Maka that's not the same as "are you up for a hike."]

Ah--first I'd like to see if I can bond with a Water type. It'd be good training for my new Shroomish, too, she's a little behind Stella and Sally...um...can I borrow your Good Rod?

[Man asking for favors is embarrassing.]

[Okay, Rei can't help but laugh just a bit at that.]

I don't mind lending it to you, no. Do you have a Pokemon in mind?

Not really, but I was going to go over to the Lake Shrine for it. I don't want to go too far by myself just yet, I know Papa would freak out.

[Not that he doesn't freak out even if she has company, but maybe slightly less.]

I didn't know you two even kept up with one another.

[Her father certainly didn't seem all that interested that she'd gone off to fight the Enhanced, or had very, very publicly evolved a second time...]

[A sigh, she rolls her eyes.]

I don't want to, but Mr. Mort asked me to call him once a week, and even if I didn't want to talk to him he still finds a way to invade my life regardless. That's why I'm trying to protect Vale from him when I'm traveling, first of all, I don't want anyone else to have to suffer his nonsense.

Well, it'll be alright, you know? The Vale can keep itself safe. There are very, very few people who would put up with his shenanigans. And the few that would are just as liable to chase him out.

[Or they don't belong in the first place.]

Mm...it makes sense, anyway, it is the place Stella picked to be our home.

[And to get away from her dad, but that goes without saying.]

But still, I don't want to just have the benefit of living there and do nothing to help out.

Well, that's just it...it's just a district. Anyone who wants to can live there.

[So what if it's full of weirdos?]

It's not like you have to help out just to live in a neighborhood. But if you really feel like being a part of it beyond just a friend? You can always help me at the shrine. My offer's still good.

[The look on her face says she really wants to question Rei on if she'd be any actual use there, but decides against it. Hey, you can't get better if you don't dive headfirst into something. Besides, Rei's already done enough for her, she shouldn't cower out of embarrassment.]

A...all right.

[A pause, her eyes shift to the side. Then:] Oneesan.

[S-see, she can use pet names too, it is totally not embarrassing at all!!]

[B-Baka little sis.

Rei smiles gently, leaning away from the camera just a bit.]

I hope it's fine, Imouto. It's not as though I don't need more help. But don't worry so much about things like that. Your father is easy enough to keep at bay.

'Course it is, I like being at the shrine.

[It's peaceful and quiet.]

...Though last time I was there, I felt things pulling on me.

What do you mean? Like Drifloons?

[Is she going to have to beat them up again?]

No, like...ah, I shouldn't have said anything, I don't even know how to explain it.

No, it's not nothing. What's going on?

[You're talking to a spiritualist, sis. You can't just say things like that and not expect...well...this.]

...[She sighs, clearly giving up on the charade of "let's pretend nothing's wrong."]

Before, I could just sense spirits around, you know? I couldn't see or interact with them, but I knew where they were. Now it's like...I don't know what's happening, but they keep touching me. Pulling on my hair, pinching me, sometimes I even see shadows just out of the corner of my eye. I yell at them to go away, but that only lasts for a little while until they come back again.

[A pause.]

It...it doesn't just happen at the shrine, anyway, so I'm not trying to blame you for me getting harassed by ghosts or something.

[Rei would've been pissy if she had continued to try it.]

Maka-chan, why didn't you tell me? This doesn't sound serious, but it could be getting worse. Especially if you're starting to train yourself as well as Stella. The stronger your get, the more your powers can grow, and if you're already being bothered by ghosts? Then that may be something we need to figure out before you evolve.

I didn't tell you because...

[Life is busy, everyone's busy, no sense in bothering somebody with your problems when they have their own to deal with.]

I didn't want to bug you. Besides, I probably won't evolve for a long time, I'm a slow-grower, remember?

[Stella just gives her an exasperated look at this.]

Maka-chan...I don't think that'd be a bother at all. Ghosts are my job. They're something that I am supposed to deal with.

[And a bit of an exasperated sigh of her own.]

And no, you're not.

[She heartily disagrees on all counts, but growing up with very busy parents will naturally give one the reaction of staying out of the way even when in need of help.]

Well...

[Buuut trying to further argue this would probably make Rei mad, so Maka just frowns and tugs on one of her pigtails.]

Maybe if I learn to see them properly, I can point them out better?

[Oh she knows that sign. Stop sulking, Maka-chan.]

That would be good. I expect you to do that, too.

[Now she did it, expectations are exactly the kind of thing that makes a Maka stop sulking immediately. Straighten up, get rid of the pout, and just...nod as though this is a very serious task she's been presented with.]

I won't let you down.
