You are still welcome to include a section for bonding with wild Pokémon as a part of another entry or a log, but we encourage isolated wild Pokémon threads to go here to prevent flooding of the main comm with entries specifically geared to only cover wild Pokémon threads.

Please respond to the correct Week if possible for organizational purposes.

[The Scorched Forest is calmer today than usual. No sudden flares of heat and temperature, no smog hanging in the air. The area is generally avoided by normal trainers due to the higher-than-normal likelihood of being incinerated, so there isn't much to speak of by the way of clearly marked paths. It's probably worth mapping, as Melaka is doing.

As she progresses, she may hear a faint sound in the distance - it's very hard to make out unless the group is quiet and it's hard to say exactly what it is. It sounds a bit like... a faint whoosh.]

[ It is, and she does mark it. Really, the big part of mapping out the area thus far has been to try to avoid places where the air gets unbreathable, which the schnoz on her Phanpy has been invaluable in finding out before they get into the thick of it. Unfortunately, Slugger is not the most quiet of Pokemon. Sure they are trying to be covert on the whole, but while she's making notes and sketching here and there, Lurks is the one standing guard and... Slugger is restlessly digging around in the soil when he doesn't need to be sniffing. And when there doesn't seem to be that many Pokemon in the immediate area, like now.

Which is enough noise to miss the faint sound.

[If they're at all diligent about mapping, they'll have a few chances at picking up on the sound, in any case, as they wander back and forth. It doesn't grow louder, but it's distinctive enough that it will seem odd.

Alternatively, Slugger may or may not be sensitive to the faint scent of blood in the vicinity.]

[ As it is, there is something bugging Mel in particular in the back of her mind as they keep mapping, but she can't put her finger on it. This continues for a long while - until the little elephant stops and stomps a foot on the ground to get the other two's attention. Melaka turns her attention to it, and sees that the trunk is sniffing furiously, and ends up pointing it's head in the direction it thinks the blood scent is coming from, explaining in pokemon words!

... Which Mel doesn't understand!

But... ]

Something's in that direction, huh?

[ Enough to point it out to them. Guess they better head in that direction ]

[In 'that direction', Melaka and her Pokemon will come across a skeletal tree. The scent of blood is strong here; there's a lot of dirt torn up and a lot of rocks and debris strewn about haphazardly.

The sound is quite loud now, as is a feeling of heat coming from the area of the tree. At the base of a tree is a mound of dirt and from within it... a faint light?]

... Slugger, hang back. [ Is what she said - even she can pick up some sort of scent here, and she can hear a vicious nose. Slugger will hang back from going into to examine the tree. The elephant looks put out until she glares at it, and then it nods, accepting that there's a plan here. She taps Lurks the Croagunk on the shoulder, and the both of them head in cautiously towards the tree.]

You make out anything special here? [ She asks this as they close in on the base of the tree and the light. She asks mostly because the frog's intuition has helped them evade a few other enemies before now ]

[Anticipation will not pick up anything particular to worry about. The light flickers here and there and something shifts underneath the dirt.]

[ Without sensing anything, Lurks nods and makes to go on ahead- until Melaka steps ahead before him and reaches down to lightly go and brush at the ground to figure out what's going on under the dirt. If the Croagunk is put off (it is) it just sort of hangs a step back from her, ready for whatever needs to happen.

This arid place is spooky. Frog life ]

[Shifting aside a bit of the dirt will quickly reveal a great scattering of crushed egg shells intermingled with blood and ichor. Shifting aside more of the dirt will eventually reveal a large nest. Not much remains, but there is a single egg from which protrudes a tail... with a flame attached.

The burning flame is making the whooshing noise that Melaka may or may not have heard.]

[ ... What. Oh. Predators must have been here. (she doesn't consider this could just be the results of a hatching). She shouldn't be surprised. She's a Ranger - okay so she's a new one, but she's seen things like this before. But with the fire there, that must be something still alive, right.

She does not dare touch that egg there, because if there's a nest, even if it was predated then there is going to to have parent around. Or at least there stands a chance of being one. In light of that she turns back to Lurks and Slugger: ]

Keep on alert. Sounds, smells, make sure we know if anything's near here at all.

[... But then she turns back to the egg itself, to look down at it. What's with the noise? ]

[Who really knows? The fire is simply making a whooshing sound as it burns. It's a miracle it wasn't put out by the dirt, but it seems like the dirt was very loosely thrown on to cover up the nest.

As Melaka watches, the cracked egg will shudder a bit and two tiny red arms will pop out. It seems like she's found it just as it's hatching!]

[ ... Oh.

Err.

Well.

You know what, she'll just watch this, leaned and crouched down by here awkwardly ]

[Crack. Crack. Shiver. Krrrrrrreak. The eggshell slowly comes apart - two legs follow the arms, the chest area cracks wide open, and the head slowly emerges......

A wild Charmander has appeared! Well. Hatched.

It blinks at Melaka for a few moments in confusion before it smiles shyly.]

Chaaaaaaar...

[ UM.

... She's reminded of Armin's idea that a baby would single out a parent. And that's just unsettling. Because does that mean that this thing is going to become attached to her. With both Lurks and Slugger hanging back, she's stuck here with just the baby in front of her. ]

...Hey.

[Melaka is answered when the Charmander wiggles forward and wraps its arms around her leg.

Unfortunately the flaming tail comes with it and waves perilously back and forth close to her other leg.]

[ . . . ] Hey, hey. Careful there.

[ She might heal fast, but it'd still hurt. She reaches out to try to grab hold of higher up the tail to brush it to one side. A baby... The least she can probably do is get it back to the Habitat, if its nest really was predated ]

[Melaka has bonded with Charmander! In an instance of Gameplay and Story Segregation, Charmander will start at Level 6 despite just having hatched because the moderator taking this particular thread didn't realize this particular contradiction at the time. The rest of its stats are up to your discretion.

If Melaka looks around any more, she will not find any trace of the Charmander's mother. There is also far more blood than there should be in general, really.]
