Departure
The time has come.
At General Ironborn’s direction, the assorted troops of Caldera, Citadel, Refuge, and Union begin to roll out of the gates of the city. It would be a long trip – Sanctuary lay far to the west of Caldera, beyond any of the territory currently known to Union. Crossing the perhaps now-familiar desert would be merely the first leg of this journey. The atmosphere, as they depart from the gates, seems chipper. There are high hopes for the reclamation of territory from Gigas, and the people of the Sanctuary Resistance, especially, begin to entertain the appealing notion that their city might be free once more for the first time in decades, exchanging wide smiles and congenial laughter.
They do not travel light, of course. Caravans pulled by Ponyta and Tauros accompany them, stocked to the brim with food and supplies to last their small army for weeks. Their efforts hopefully wouldn’t last much longer than that, but they are assured by the Sanctuary natives that so long as they were able to reclaim a portion of the city, the people would happily provide them with what they needed. Other wagons are stocked with odd-looking machinery and gadgets – those sitting inside will spend the majority of the journey fiddling with equipment. Anyone who inquires will be informed that the technicians are making preparations to highjack Sanctuary’s communications network for their missions – perhaps they would care to assist? Still others are filled with armor and weaponry, useful Enhanced Items hurriedly crafted by the artisans of Union, and a few even tote heavier Pokémon who wouldn’t be up to the task of traveling the distance alone.
As it turns out, war is very troublesome to wage.
Over the course of the journey, there is plenty of time for idle conversation and brief side excursions or rest stops. The caravan eventually elongates and stretches out such that the furthest travelers are several miles in front of the rear – still, it is simple enough to go between wagons. In a pinch, the Valkyries swooping in the sky are always happy to take on a passenger for a short ride.
Eventually, word would spread that they were only a day’s travel from Sanctuary, and the mood will become somber, serious. But in the meantime, why not chat up your fellow travelers?

[action]
Maka was reading during lunch period, but she'll look up anyway at the call.
...Soup sounds good. The traveling has been a killer on her appetite anyway. So she gets up to investigate the pot, Larvitar and Meowstic following after her.]
It looks good. Um...there's no meat in there, right?
Re: [action]
[He gave an apologetic smile at that as he gestures to the left]
Though that guy over there is doing a berry salad.
[action]
[Stella does not seem to give a darn either way and is just tapping her foot. Jade seems to be making a game out of reaching out to touch the pot and then reeling back before it burns him.]
Besides, it'd be rude to waste your effort by being picky. If you don't mind, I'll take a bowl.
Re: [action]
[He lightly chided Jade as he pours another bowl to offer]
Here you go, it's not going to be too fancy, but it's all right I think. So how are you holding up after that mission we went on?
[action]
[I'll be fine! Jade stubbornly says with a pout. He's a big boy, clearly, big boys don't get burned.]
I was feeling sick for a few days after that, but when I was able to go out and explore again I found out what the problem was--I was evolving.
[Really weird time for it to happen and she's hoping the second stage isn't that unpleasant.]
...Stella and Ariel ended up evolving too. I guess it was just our time.
Re: [action]
[He questioned, looking a little confused as he shifts in place as he offers a bowl, shaking off a moment of light-headedness]
Re: [action]
[It's more in the feeling of her presence instead of appearance, there's a general calm around her and that's about all.]
I kinda expected to have some physical change, like how Stella used to be a little cat and now she's a bigger cat. Ariel's even bigger, though, she's almost as tall as I am now.
[But Maka is short, so that's not saying very much.]
Re: [action]
[He sets the ladle down, now that he got a good feel, her waves did feel less agitated then the last time they met]
I think Badr might be close to evolving as well.
Re: [action]
No, they're very real. I've only witnessed one happening once...er, besides my own experience. They can get...pretty intense.
[And painful, but she doesn't want to come off like she's whining or something. So Maka pauses instead to have some of the soup before it gets too cool.]
...It's good, by the way. No frills, very straightforward. [Maka it's food, not a person.]
